Serious question.
I'm about to undertake an explication of a poem for my English class at uni and one of the major parts of understanding the meaning behind it is to know that the poet was a [dark skinned?] man in the 1920s writing about his dream of a society moving away from colour persecution and racial discrimination
So what's the most politically correct way of referring to that? I get so confused here. I don't want to come across as a racist or anything by using the wrong terms. I guess I could find a way around it, but I don't want to lose marks for something that I feel is relevant to the poem and understanding where he is coming from
I'mma just mute anyone that takes advantage of this and posts the obvious racist comments, by the way.
It depends what the people call themselves I guess. Black is actually ok, and far less offensive than mis-labelling someone.

Guess it depends where you live. Here in Canada we don't really say African American. Black is acceptable.

5 commentairesJust black. If you don't like that, say negro, or African American. None of those are offensive.

A human being. Equally, you all stand before me. Equally, you all are scum.

2 commentairesThe politically correct way to say it would be African American But nobody give a shit if you say black so long as it isn't in a derogatory kinda way

Black man?

1 commentaireHere's what you do: 1. Find a picture of the man. 2. Load it in Photoshop (or comparable program). 3. Sample his skin and get the hex color code. 4. Use that code when referring to his ethnicity to ensure accuracy and prevent discrimination.

No one will be offended by African-America, but I find black to be more accurate.

Black? The same way I'd refer to a Caucasian as white.

I just say black/brown. Don't see why it has to be such a big deal.
