This isn't really an informative thread, because I'm sure you all are away animals are treated poorly in the meat industry. I just want to know why? Why do we even let this happen? Why are there no laws agains animal cruelty in meat production?

Increasing regulations would result in higher costs and lower production.

...What?

Some of the premium cows, meats are treated like god's.

13 commentairesYou know...we have to kill them in order to eat them right? Why the hell are you worried about animal cruelty then?!

3 commentairesI've been to a farm and seen how the pigs are raised. They're literally kept in cages with the bars surrounding them so they can't move. There was piss and shit everywhere and dead piglets that were killed when the mother rolled over and crushed them. It's pretty nasty.

2 commentairesThe meat industry was much worse before this great woman changed it.

5 commentairesWe should make cannibalism legal because animal cruelty doesn't apply to humans.
-
I'm not a tree hugger but if they can grow meat in lab then I'll support it
-
the only bad thing would be mega corps industrial farms trying to imitate the soviet production style(failed) , creating more disease, and steroid/hormone injections that get passed on to the consumer.

2 commentairesDo you work in the Meat industry? Have you taken Agriculture classes? Have you read any books about the Meat industry or Animal industry in general? Do you know standard industry practices? Do you know how animals see the world, scientifically? If your answer to these questions are no, then go get an education and then come back. If you want some good reading material, read Animals in Translation by Temple Gradin. It's a very good book and explains a lot.

1 commentaireSpeaking of meat, anyone else here love the taste of this bait?

3 commentairesI don't give a shit. Slaughtered cows, hunted deer, carved lamb and sliced open pig is -blam!-ing delicious.

2 commentairessame reason why you wont grow your own damn cow.

I've seen those videos and the way the animals are treated is horrific and sickens me. However I will never stop eating meat.

Consumption of any living thing is a crime against the Mantle
-
Because we see that they're just as doomed to death as we are (AND consuming them delays our death), so why should we really care? Empathy is a tool for building alliances and civilizations; there's no such thing as a moral absolute. Animal Rights, and even Human Rights, are just products of wishful thinking. I say this as a vegetarian of 5 years by the way. I'm vegetarian for different reasons. I can only see people who fret extensively over animal cruelty while still consuming meat as hopelessly lost to childish denial.

I buy 70% of my meat from local farmers.
-
Got some butthurt users below. It's not that hard to just treat the animal good, and not bloodily torture them to death.
-
Why? lol, because we need to feed seven billion people on this earth, and leaves don't cut it. It may be "wrong" but it's needed for us to survive at this point. There are no laws against it because that would limit production, costing us efficiency, money, time, and ultimately human lives.
-
Because it would limit productivity and raise cost. No thanks.
