Destiny 2 is a game with incredibly fun gameplay, but gameplay without a strong and continuous narrative feels hollow. It is like storing a weapon only for it to disappear — what is the point of fighting in a world where the story feels confusing and disconnected from the origin of your journey? When I first started playing Destiny, the thing that captivated me the most and made me want to keep playing and exploring this universe was the narrative itself. It sparked my curiosity, and I believe it did the same for many other players. The early story felt nostalgic to Destiny while still giving purpose to the Guardian. In contrast, the current world of Destiny 2 feels very artificial for new or returning players like me. The last expansion that truly entertained me was Destiny 2: Beyond Light. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it had a narrative that felt much clearer and more objective. I believe that continuing the main story of the Guardian’s journey is a great path forward. However, the story itself should not be locked away from players. Instead, only additional rewards, cosmetics, or exclusive items should be gated behind expansions or seasonal content — not the narrative itself. In other words, restoring access to the original base story of Destiny 2 and connecting it to the newer narratives would help new and returning players feel included in the world and its progression. Expanding the current storyline in a cohesive way — rather than relying on temporary solutions like collaborations — would also help Destiny maintain its originality. Destiny is an excellent game and once set the standard for the genre. However, it sometimes struggles to use its own content in a way that motivates players to explore the narrative and grind for power with a clear sense of purpose.
