It was broken in D1 but I believe it can be balanced. Here are my suggestions, whether it comes back in D2 or a theoretical D3:
Ability comes from an exotic armor piece
-I think the chest slot is most competitive for super-related exotics but it's dealer's choice. You could bring back Purifier Robes, the blind on self-res chest from D1, and skip having to design a new exotic.
Self-Res drains all super energy
-You no longer self-res into an ability-spam monster. You died and came back to life, your penance is no super. Therefore, you have to choose whether to use your super and risk actually dying, or pocketing your super for a revive
Encounter wipes disable button prompt
-Mechanical failure is treated separately from combat failure. If you screw up the Witness snare, pasta la vista, no res for you. This prevents cheeses where a player dies before a wipe mechanic, the mechanic triggers, and then self-res bypasses said mechanic.
Self-Res still costs your Revive Token
-Since you did technically perform a revive, you lose your res token in high-level activities.
My central hangup is that Titans and Hunters lack equivalent self-sufficiency utility, but that's a problem for another day. Maybe Titans can get an armor lock exotic and Hunters can get an invincibility during dodge exotic, but I digress. This ability probably would need a combination of balancing factors, but it would be pretty sick.

I’d always save my panic slam in D1 for a self rez warlock back in 2015-2016 trials 😭🙏

1 commentaireMan every time I see I see the count down after all 3 of us die, "self res" flashes before me! Lol Leave it out of PvP, but that feeling of saving everyone and finishing is an awesome feeling. I think anyone that has done that can agree. Thanks for the memories! Lol

5 commentairesWarlock: Self Revive Titan: Indestructible Bubble Hunter: F them, they already have EZ and OP supers.

You lost me at ... comes from an exotic. However the rest is interesting. i'd love for self res to be a thing in D2. for example: Pop my Dawblade, throw a Daybreak or 2... ok ok maybe 3 but than suddenly! a Hunter kills me with his/her Golden Gun. 😞 Just a minute... i had super energy left Ba-Bam!!! Self res! (yes no super energy left after res) but can also be applied to Well of Radiance and Song of Flame... naturally. 😎 Can Not Use without popping a Super 1st (Dawn, Well or Song). ❤

tbhf they can totally make an exotic to bring it back, in today standard is not even that broken

1 commentaireModifié par Why is this happening? : 1/12/2026 2:40:09 AMSelf res wouldn't even be close to broken by today's standards. Do you not understand how overpowered we are now? Lmao Everything you're suggesting would ruin the entire point of the super and there'd be absolutely no reason to ever use it. Hard pass.

A Purifier Robes rework for D2 could be the way to do this
-
3 commentairesI miss devour on demand. Being able to eat my grenade to proc devour was so freaking satisfying. It should be an aspect
-
It could be balanced in PvP if it provides no damage resistance at all when self resurrecting While we're at it I'd love to use Arc Blade again. Arc Staff and Spectral Blades don't feel nearly as fast and zippy as Arc Blade especially with Blink equipped

Modifié par eeriearcade : 1/11/2026 1:54:11 PMIt’s fun to play against in PvP, especially Elimination. Sometimes you get a free extra kill if they mistime the self-res, but if they get it right, it can swing the match back in their favour. It keeps everyone on their toes.
-
D2 Warlocks helps you keep yourself and your team alive D1 Warlock gave you a free revive in hard raids, but if you wasnt dead it was useless, and if you died again without super, it was worthless Well,Rift,Healing Grenades>Self Rez
-
Self-Res and Well - in the dna of every W from way back! It was why I dialled-in to the Ws brand of space magic, back then. Remember those crucible vids of the stomping crew…sometimes Emoting (T bagging), gathered around the downed W - who would then explode into life and nuke the lot! Or, on a raid…team down…wipe imminent…then - whoosh!…and the W clutches it! Happy days! 😁 Don’t mess with Ws… 😎 That is all. Ease Slings! 🖖👻 MTFBWY
It was broken in D1 but I believe it can be balanced
Screw balancing it.....it was a super!! This is the reason I chose the Warlock as my first character on the first day of launch, and to this day, has remained my favourite character. Ok, I couldn't provide any super damage on bosses, but has helped our clan to clutch a raid on many occasions. And in this day and age, where Bungie wrongly assumes that we all want "almost impossible" difficulty levels of content, and we can all flawless run everything, it would be an invaluable tool in the armoury for us mere mortals who like to play for fun and not glory.
-
Yeah that’d be cool. Just bring back all D1 abilities, exotics etc . At this point what does it matter? But self Rez…the nostalgia is real 👍🏻
-
I do miss it as well. But it will never come back due to it being a balancing nightmare lol. Song of flame is the closest it will ever be to back. Only exception being some exotic that automatically restores health in some way when you take enough damage. But titans already have loreley splendor so I don’t see that happening for warlocks. Would basically be the same exotic.

2 commentairesI have to wonder if this proposed exotic has any other functionality? Otherwise I feel it would just sit in your inventory until you die, swap to it while dead, activate revive, and immediately swap back to what you had on previously. I think that something designed to be a hotswap exotic would be lame.
-
10 commentairesI think you would need a way to incorporate this or something similar on all three characters. It would be kinda lame to only do it on Warlock.

Modifié par cryptic_king_241 : 1/11/2026 12:12:59 AMIt was an modifier in the solar super called Fireborn, alongside Radiance (ability effectiveness), SoF (ability cooldown for nearby allies), and Radiant Skin (DR buff). Only one could be chosen at a time. Really, the D2 version is the D1 version except with all of those active in exchange for Fireborn being completely removed. Having it come from an exotic sounds nice, but just drain all super energy and it only rezzes you, no buffs of any kind attached.
