In the previous version the fireteam finder was flooded with hundreds to thousands of alts daily spamming paid carry and recov ads. To say the least, it wasn't fun trying to stem the tide by constantly banning those accounts and barely making a dent. The community was similarly tired of that experience, based on the topics created about it and the reports that came in. It's not a surprise Bungie made a change, honestly.
