Can they simply pivot back to working on D2 or will this result in everyone getting their hand smacked?

I’d have thought the atmosphere at Bungie would have hit a low point around the time when the layoffs happened but seems it’s even worse now. https://thegamepost.com/new-report-bungie-morale-in-free-fall-marathon-crisis/ Unfortunately for Bungie it seems that Marathon is 💩. And although we all know that can’t be polished, Bungie will no doubt spend a few months trying to do just that. Then somehow be amazed when it’s DOA at launch. -
2 commentairesDestiny doesn't make enough money anymore, and if Marathon fails its game over for Bungie. Opting for Marathon as the new IP looks like gross incompetence.

Maybe they should just install a bunch of cameras around Bungie HQ and stream game development as a docusoap. From what I understand, Destiny 2’s profit margin has been steadily decreasing and they need a new project to justify the size of the studio. It could have been D3, but it wasn’t. To pivot now would require some major new investment from Sony. I still want Marathon to succeed. I like what they’re aiming for, just not the execution (at this moment in time).

Deep Doo Doo ...My thought is that its Bungie's leaders being absent, not taking responsibility and removing themselves (stepping down) from causing further harm to the people they employ. >>Not 1 vid do you hear from anyone above a game director or maybe assistant game director. No VP, no CEO, no other top executives taking responsibility... stepping in.. showing their prowess in business and understanding of their product.... they are on cruise control.. headed to the crash of their company and ready to (golden) parachute out. They don't make changes they know that players want until its too late... its really an us vs them culture... Now you have such limited resources at play that the bug list is actually a feature list for the players... -
Looking at sonys live service history they're very quick to save money by shutting things down. No wonder the staff are down, it looks very bleak for all concerned

They already have been working on destiny 2……. We just got multiple expansions announced plus they’ve said they have a 2 year roadmap planned, we already know the first year (Edge of fate and renegades) I know it might shock people, but studios as large as Bungie are capable of working on multiple games at the same time. Ubisoft does it, Activision has a plethora of studios that do it, Bethesda does it, etc etc. they have 850 staff last I heard, bigger than most studios and big enough to work on 3-4 games if they really wanted to. Not gonna lie it surprises me they haven’t been doing that cause generally studios run with that “we have the capability so let’s do it, more projects equal more money” (a double edged sword as well because that also opens you up to over extending) But yeah again we’ve been getting D2 expansions even while marathon has been worked on and we just had multiple expansions confirmed with one just a month away now.

But this is Bungie we're talking about...

5 commentairesModifié par The Hermit IX : 5/18/2025 7:14:23 PMI think they decided to pivot toward creating new games due to the constant negativity attached to anything Destiny. Look at the nimrod content creator Lucky10 and how he’s shifted his content to 99% negative click bait. While he isn’t doing big numbers, I’m sure they are better when he’s bashing. Their focus should have been on creating D3 but it presented too large a risk. Honestly anything online is chock full of Bots posting negative things these days. These forums are filled with them too lol. Bungie isn’t going down as a studio over stolen art or people being negative over Marathon.
