The falling player count & backlash against Heresy has lead me to this conclusion;
I think a large part of the problem may lie in that the current developers are trying to make Destiny like other games. Perhaps trying to either chase a fashion or reinvent the wheel. Instead of focusing on what Destiny was to begin with.
Destiny is; a shared world first person shooter, with RPG & MMO aspects. The key word being "aspects."
What Destiny is not; is WoW, Doom, an MMORPG, or MOBA games etc.
I almost feel like the development leads can't see the wood for the trees, if you take my meaning. They've moved so far away from the original intention of what this game was that they are trying to be "too original" in their execution.
They should all go back & play D1 & feel what it was like to play, enjoy & have fun.
Bungie; fly me out to Seattle. I'll put you back on the right track.
It comes down to this;
The greatest thing about D1 was the power fantasy.
The development team have done everything in their power to remove that all in the name of "challenging activities."
Which in turn has sucked the fun out of the game. Because they've put stupid modifiers on everything activity.
It started with the introduction of the boss stomp, because players figured out that you could destroy bosses with Raze Lighter spinning attack (back in D1).
Then came Champion enemies in D2. The real forced artificial difficulty. Players hated this.
Now modifiers are on everything except patrol zones.
The game doesn't need modifiers, it needs a better A.I to run the enemies, because they are ment to be to difficulty.
But instead of a tuned up enemy A.I we get too many enemies & stupid modifiers.
I would bet money that these reasons are why players are burnt out & putting the game down.
Question;
Why was Space Marine 2 so successful?
Answer;
The power fantasy of being an badass Astartes super soldier, stomping enemies.

1 commentaireYou know, I generally stop listening the moment somebody says "Guys! There's a simple easy solution to all our problems, it's crazy that nobody else has seen it!" The reason nobody has done it yet is usually because it wouldn't work.

What can fix it….. A meteor on Bungie hq

Modifié par I am kevin : 2/10/2025 9:38:47 AMDidn’t read it.. but Bungie is on the right track, they know destiny is dying and a StarWars skin collab is the last biggest paycheck grab. It’s super smart just before the game is dead. Bungie has completely teams working on monitization of there player base, trust me they know more then we do. They only thing is that you don’t realize is you’re the product getting consumed instead of you consuming destiny. You’re a money making product getting abused. In a big puddle of experiment bungie is just gathering date while making money. Bungie philosophy was earn trust, underperform, en grab revenue… trust was forsaken underperformed was final shape. And now we are in the grab revenue situation

2 commentaires1000% agreed with you Bungie needs to get more players into the game, more new players & keep them playing BUT bungie kills fun, constantly. Even Dungeons and Raids. My friends used to enjoy that stuff but it got harder and harder, more symbols to memorize, less mistakes could be made or a wipe would reset 25 minutes of setup for DPS and over time ALL my D1 friends quit D2 and quit destiny. BUT Saltagreepo is almost winning day 1 contest dungeon today, and the rest of the players can't compete with that and the majority will probably never beat the dungeon all while Saltagreepo will play it 3 times and then in 2 weeks complain there's nothing to do in the game, he wants more challenges..... SMH

4 commentairesModifié par GradeMyGuardianTTV : 2/7/2025 2:18:25 PM
The power fantasy...
I don't believe this is the issue. We are exiting what has been the single most potent, most imbalanced sandbox we've ever seen. Power isn't lacking. Purpose is. Destiny 2 is a Looter Shooter at it's core. Agree? If so, keep reading. In being a Looter Shooter, the core gameplay loop of Destiny 2 is chasing bigger & better Loot. Welp, that's become a problem for numerous reasons. Firstly, that wildly imbalanced sandbox I referenced. Abilities are composing 70-80% of competitive Fireteams' kills in activities. That's a far cry from the 50:50 Vision the Devs have repeatedly referenced & fixated upon with past balances. My point here is that gunplay is heavily downplayed in the current sandbox. Secondly, what little gunplay remains is dominated by a niche of weapon archetypes. In PVE this is predominantly Double Special loadouts, involving Area Denials, Rocket Sidearms & Rapid Shottys. In PVP it is High Impact Pulses, 120 HCs & Precision Shotguns. These have all been problematic in their respective content for quite some time. This effectively suppresses the demand for grinding. WHAT is the purpose of grinding IF the gear ISN'T bigger or better? The only viable answer would be "To grind in the hopes that one day it is relevant". But when it isn't relevant, you're sitting on a useless pile of junk you've wasted time on grinding. MANY out there recognize this as an issue. They recognize nothing is better than "x" so why chase "y"? The third and final issue plaguing the game is.....Crafting. Let me start this off by stating the following- RNG Insurance is an absolute must. Gamers value their time being respected. This is already an existing issue outlined with the second position. Crafting has provided RNG Insurance. HOWEVER, the way it has been managed over the span of its implementation has been nothing short of atrocious. We went from chasing random Red Borders, to Red Borders for Activity Completion to Weekly Focusable Red Borders- all the while you STILL had to use the damn gun, kill stuff & level it for the perks you wanted- to using Cores to powerlevel a weapon we then shoot twice & vault. Crafting has been horribly managed over the span of its implementation. I have to reiterate this, because it's not that Crafting doesn't hold potential, its just been managed poorly in this franchise. But why is Crafting a problem? Crafting introduced immeasurable Power Creep to the Loot Pool. Bungie had NO choice to but to continue introducing "Bigger & Better" options, to maintain the fundamentals of Destiny 2, ie Looter Shooterisms. Simultaneously, Crafting neutralized other non-craftable gear, as the insurance of a roll vs RNG reduced Activity Engagement. The conundrum has been rather akin to the ideologies I laid out in Position 2, that being "Why 'y' if 'x' is better?". Players chose insurance over RNG and in return, variety concerning engagement dwindled. In response, MORE patterns AND harmonizers hit the pool during Lightfall. However, these concepts backfired as Activity Engagement continued to dwindle in variety. Entering The Final Shape, one of these adjustments has been to remove Crafting altogether in the hopes to stimulate engagement as the shopping cart effect is mitigated. Instead, this too has backfired, as the protectionisms against RNG are alleviated, leaving the playerbase at the mercy of the time killing casino. EVERY AAA Developer is pursuing not just a financial investment from their playerbase, but a time investment. A wildly imbalanced sandbox has reduced the demand for Loot and has pigeonholed what Loot is viable. The mismanagement concerning the implementation & balance of Crafting further killed of what Loot is viable, redirected Activity Engagement, and furthered the "x > y, so WHY y" ideology to the grind. The REMOVAL of Crafting killed RNG protectionisms and reintroduced the Time Killing Casino so many wanted out of, that initially drove the Insurance Policies provided by Crafting. So not only is Loot mostly irrelevant thanks to the sandbox, there are severe limitations on what is relevant, and not only are there severe limitations on what is relevant, there are limited activities to obtain what is relevant, and not only are there limited activities for obtaining 'relevant' Loot, but it's now complete RNG determining your reward. Is it not obvious why this gaming is failing? A storm so perfect, it's almost as if it was contrived....

1 commentaireWe are literally more powerful than we ever were in D1.
-
I think it has more fragments of an MMO/RPG than aspects.
-
Destiny has always been an MMO, it has always been designed as such and marketed as such.

24 commentairesModifié par TheArtist : 2/7/2025 1:38:15 PMAgreed. Bungie is slowly falling into the same trap that nearly destroyed The Division franchise in its first year in 2016….then hobbled the second game as well: Devs with an overinvested ego and need to make the game “difficult.” It got so bad that the game broke down and became unplayable to any who wasn’t playing a perfectly min-maxed build…even the progression system broke down. Because you had to have higher level gear to clear content than the content dropped as rewards. It reached a breaking point when a poster and one of Ubisofts CMs got into it one day online. The CM lost it, and starting lecture all of us about how central all this was to the devs “design philosophy”. I just shook my head. One, because I think the CM ended up getting fired over that outburst. Two. If you are having to lecture your players about “design philosophy” you have lost the point and are losing the argument…badly. Three. It is insulting to your customers to assume that the main reason why they aren’t enjoying your game is because they don’t UNDERSTAND it…. No. Playing a loot game and being WEAK is not enjoyable. It is not enjoyable to have to pour 2-3 MAGAZINES of ammo into a mob to get it to die, while it can two-tap you from halfway across the play space either a shotgun. It’s not fun to play a game so badly tuned that you routinely run out of ammo and can’t find any more where you are….so you have to quit it….and the game drops lower level gear than you have to equip to clear the content. While Bungie isn’t messing up that badly, they are making mistakes that are only different in degree but not in kind. They are so focused on making the game more “difficult” for a vocal minority who do not have the game’s best interests in mind….that they are making the game less playable and less enjoyable for the average player….who pays the game’s bills. So they are putting down their controllers and leaving. Another issue is poor Quality Control. My God the game has never been this bad in terms of bugs, soft locking, unstable servers. I played vanilla Cyberpunk 2077 on Google Stadia and had a better experience playing THAT game from a QC perspective than I’m having with D2 right now. I had to quit a run of The Nether story mission because I couldn’t complete an objective because an enemy got stuck inside a wall. Had to quit an earlier run because a group of enemies wouldn’t spawn in. I couldnt complete the Fikrul last fight (Epidode 2) because of soft-locking after the first damage phase. The bugs have escalated to the game-breaking point…. Can’t have fun playing if you can’t get through the content….

They fix anything that benefits players. Yet don't fix the bugs hurting the game. They ignore the overwhelming majority of feed back and continuous hatred of the current gameplay loop. They won't make the game fun to play if they keep going this direction.

1 commentaireOld engine it's not as simple of oh let's improve Ai and that won't save the game. Bad RnG system Bad progression system ie power Overly saturated look pool Not enough engaging activitys Just to name a few. Bungie don't update older content enough which hurts the game dares of eternity could have been fun with updates every episode as a way of chasing red boarders you cant get anymore. Gambit has potential for different game types but bungie abandoned it. The game struggles to find identity or it's demographic the devs wanted harder the community didn't. At this point the franchise needs a new studio a new team and a hard reset with a proper plan behind it. Hopefully Sony give the ip to a different studio instead of abandoning it.

8 commentairesYou'll have many different opinions on what makes destiny good/bad and this probably comes down to when any given player started playing the game. In my opinion, destiny being a live service wasn't the right move in the end and although there are benefits with timed events, it's ultimately led to stretched out content, defined/shifting metas etc... instead of balance and flexibility. I honestly think there's been enough content to produce 3 full games and the series could have finished 4 years ago. I think we would have had 3 absolute bangers as well... just my opinion though, we'll never truly know!

Make good content. Stop Timegating everything! Even the great stuff leaves us with a bad experience due to Timegating. Even the premium dungeons now have Timegating secrets and questlines. * When you complete the dungeon the quest that drops will say "come back next week" basically lol
-
hmm I blame management for the crap where in now

1 commentaireThe current "developers" are just not familiar with Destiny. Most of the current devs most likely were born when Destiny 1 released. Bungie made the big mistake to shift away all their talent towards other projects and hired a bunch of junior devs to keep destiny barely alive. You can feel the lost passion in the dev team everywhere. They simply dont play their own game and/or are a completely different generation that has zero passion for the product. The collect their feedback from a toxic elitist minority of players.

You should apply for a job at bungie.

Modifié par Kirka : 2/8/2025 4:19:50 PMThey are completely out of touch. I just bought the Final Shape from sale (shame on me) and been working on the legendary campaign. Now at the Witness. It's just not something you want a campaign to be. Feels more like soloing a dungeon. Which I know for a fact over 90% of the playerbase is not capable of doing. Just watched the Bungie stream yesterday and someone was talking that they had shamefully only solo flawlessed Prophecy because they were a pvp main. Shows how out of touch these people are from the playerbase. I have 8000+ hours on this game from D1 and my friends outright quit couple years ago because the game got too hard and wasn't anymore something we could play while having drinks and have fun. I'm no stranger to hard I used to do challenge runs on Dark Souls 2 some 10 years ago. But Destiny was always a fun game for me and not something I need to grind my gears with. Edit. Well I finished the legendary campaign. Just because I did them on legendary before. Not a fan of the one shot mechanics. But the quests after, like the one where you gotta protect the shank, are pretty decent.

Bankruptcy?

4 commentairesI tried Destiny 2 for about 3 hours before feeling like I was going to fall asleep. This game is painfully boring

No you don't.

Just answering the title here, no you don’t.

2 commentairesAh yes. The player who has no Titles and barely done any Raids or Dungeons is going to save the game.

Modifié par SnookCharmer : 2/7/2025 8:29:30 PMNot saying I agree or disagree with any of this -- I didn't even read most of it -- but whenever I hear someone make the argument that D2 is a MMO (and solo players should accept it or go away, or perhaps some related assertion), or more broadly, that a company shouldn't ever evolve or set foot outside their original box, I want to point out, if they'd realized they were in the business of transporting people and products, rather than in the railroad business, airlines and ocean liners would have names like Union Pacific. Had Amazon accepted that it was merely an online bookstore, they wouldn't rule the world right now.
