How is a simple quality of life improvement a waste of time? They could have this done in an afternoon.

  • Not necessarily. You’d be amazed the kind of corners a studio can lock themselves into very early into a game’s development. Especially one using a proprietary engine and not something like Unreal. Character model and face being locked and set before the you actually play a mission could be something that needs to set in stone, almost like it’s hardcoded. Changing it would not be a simple afternoon fix (very few things are). Some things you may think are simple can end up costing at least $1M, take at least 8 months, and risk breaking anything from your account being authenticated and allowed to sign in, your character being able to equip armor, not just de-syncing constantly and getting errored to the main menu, game crashes, loss of items or progress, the game treating you like a new light player, breaking some of the laws of physics in the game, character becomes permanently invisible to the player, and possibly many other things. So you’d have very high risk with very low ROI. Now it could be stupid simple too. Maybe it’s on a “to-do” list of tickets, but it’s so low priority that bug fixes and sandbox tuning keeps trumping it.

  • Well a proper mmo rpg would maybe have already launched with such a feature and seeing as everyone who played d1 already complained about this and wanted this feature in the first game, at this point for d2 to not have this, is kinda ridiculous. Sure their engine might be crap, but if they wanted to they could fix it, obviously as there is no money in doing this, they aren't going to do it.

  • It could have happened for a number of reasons, and maybe it was the easiest way to handle something way back in 2013/2014 when D1 was coming out. A locked in character appearance under the armor could be fundamental to many systems. This could be among the list of things that could be possible with a Destiny 3, as they may not be beholden to the blocks they made for themselves with D1 and D2. Like I’m certain that the reason there are so many UI limitations, inventory limitations, even needing armor affinity and mods specific to certain affinities is due to limitations of older hardware still needing to be supported. Something a sequel leaving that HW behind could improve vastly leading to a deluge of quality of life improvements everywhere. But we’d also have to be willing to see the amount of content we have to play drop off significantly too in year 1, compare to what we have even now.

  • They code for a living, they should be able to get something as simple as this done quickly btw I am honoured to meet a top 99% trials player, your breed is actually pretty rare. Keep it up!
