MHW has a ton of monsters to kill, and they get increasingly harder as you go up the ranks.
At first you soar through the game, slaughtering monsters left and right....then you meet High rank.
And once you beat high rank, you meet some tempered monsters.
In these moments of increasing difficulty, you often encounter a stumbling block (Why Nergigante? Why?).
Usually, overcoming these stumbling blocks results in very clutch or tense moments. Sometimes you finish the hunt by sheer luck.
tl;dr- what are the most tense or clutch moments you’ve experienced in MHW?
I’ve got three:
1.Nergigante
Nergigante...a huge wall that stands in the way of awesome armor and elder dragon hunts. When I first hunted this guy, I had received many warnings. Being the overconfident hunter that I am, I set out to kill this beast. At first, I thought the battle was pretty easy. Then, he roared. Stunned, I look up to see him jump into the air, and spiral into the ground, covering literally every inch of ground around him. Not being able to get out the stun, I get carted back to Narnia when he hits me. I shrug it off and try again. I faint two more times. Then I fail the quest two more times. Although I was pretty pissed, I gave the quest one more run. I buffed literally everything I could, I maxed my armor, and got the best bow that I could take. I venture out again. During his first dive bomb, he left me with an inch of health. I eventually learned how to dodge it. But then came the part where he retreats to the crystal cave; the part where I died the most. In this cave, all he does is spam dive bombs. I venture into his cave, and I set up a bomb. I shoot it, and the beast awakens. I evade left and right, trying to keep my stamina above zero. Once he rises into the air, I panic, and I run to my right, but I hit a wall, and he carts me. Two more lives left. At this point, I was about to throw my controller away. I go back the caves, and I try to end this elder dragon once and for all. And for the first time, I successfully evade his dive bomb. The fight lasts for five minutes, until I charge up my dragon piercer. Then, he begins to fly. He was going to dive bomb. Then, my charged dragon piercer goes flying right into his chest, and he drops to the ground, dead. This was the most satisfying feeling I got out of MHW
2. Black Diablos
To me, Black Diablos was another stumbling block. I first encountered her in an expedition. I decided to try fighting her, but I fainted. I go after her again, but she (*sob*) leaves the locale. I decide to take on her optional quest. I didn’t come prepared. The fight was long, and she hit me many times. Her stun was what made me a living punching bag. I eventually get her to low health, but she didn’t retreat yet. By now, I had one continue left, but she eventually rams be back to Astera. I go on the quest again, and I bring my best armor with me. By now, I’ve learned how to dodge her attacks; but the issue here was that I was being extremely cautious, so I wasn’t doing enough damage. This extended the fight, and after 40 minutes of just shooting arrows and evading (and getting hit, of course), she is finally wounded. I decide to capture her, since I had enough of her nonsense.
3. Kushala Daora
Kushala was fairly easy at first...his tornados became a bit annoying, but it was nothing that I couldn’t handle. After a lot of fighting, I get him down to a wounded condition, and he retreats to his nest. Now, the problem here was that all he does around his nest is crap tornadoes. Eventually he craps so much that the whole area is just slathered by tornados. I try and move, but no matter what, I always run into a tornado, and get staggered, and then get hit. He eventually carted me. I man up and try again. After a lot of fighting and frustration, he retreats to another area (Thank goodness). When I get near him, he starts spewing out tornadoes again. He drains my hp, and I decide to fire a dragon pod at him as sort of a panic move. The dragon pod hits, and, surprisingly, he dies.
1 commentaireI was cooking a raw steak so I could increase my stamina meter when a pickle rounded the corner and just about bit my head off

1 commentaireGenerally when you play with randoms. You're about to finish a hunt and kill a monster but you're down to one life. All that goes through my mind is, okay.. who's going to die? And I sure as hell hope it's not me.
-
As many have said already, tempered pickle. That combination of his one shots mixed with the whole not being able to escape his hit box. It’s always so annoying when he hits me and I’m able to survive with a sliver of health and immediately jump out the way in any direction only to have him do the attack where he goes back and forth. You literally can’t get out of the way of that if you’re anywhere near him

2 commentairesI almost bought it and that was pretty intense. But then I didn't.
-
Tempered Kirin. I fainted once but I had a bow with like only one coating type so it took like 40 mins. Glad it’s over, even though I’ve had to help a few people through it now.

My first time fighting Nergigante in the Recess.

1 commentaireBeing on a hunt knowing it's a giant crown monster with only 1 faint remaining, praying the other players don't faint again.

Double tempered Baselguise mission. That was cancerous, and I was so relieved when I finally beat it.

4 commentairesProbably in the beginning when people were struggling with Anja. "Is this dude gonna get lasered a third time...?

2 commentairesThe “Relish the Moment” quest. Literally the entire thing is just one big anxiety fest. If he so much as looks at you wrong, you’re dead. I don’t even think you can prevent damage in any way other than dodging. I tried using the vitality mantle and he still one shot me through it after my character received a new set of jelly legs courtesy of Pickle brain’s lighthearted tap dancing. Even blocking I receive about a 4th of my health bar in damage.

2 commentairesFighting spicy pickle (tempered devil j'ho) in general. The whole engagement is just one 30+ minute anxiety/panic attack.

5 commentairesBlack Diablo, black diablos and oh, did I say black diablos?

1 commentaireThe first time I hunted a HR Barroth to get that tower armor and I came across the Bazelgeuse. I had no idea what I stumbled upon, but the fact that I was getting 1-shotted by his hip checks was proof enough that it was time to step up the big leagues.

Fighting Tempered Jho almost made my heart explode

1 commentaireOne time the Xeno jiva knocked me over with a tail swipe and immediately turned and shot his laser beam at me. Since I was on the ground it didn't hurt but I was hoping not to get up because the laser was going right over me. Luckily my Hunter stayed down.

1 commentaireFinished xenojiva with a minute left.

1 commentaireHe first time I fought the -blam!-ing electric squirrel thing. I am a newbie for the series and this was my first major roadblock after he one hit me
