I think it's extremely stupid, and the hypocrisy in doing it is hilarious.
Basically there is one parent in a Virginia school who is worried the racial slurs in two books that are both huge cornerstones of anti-racism is racist. She's pretty much already won, seeing as no other parents are fighting against her on it.
Edit 1- Well, well, well. Look who's trending. Also, apparently it's isolated to only that school.

Books are the devil!

1 commentaireYou know, I've never read either of those books.

Just another example of progressivism hindering critical thinking.

Good book but over rated as a must read classic. Now it is just used as a fence by pc and right zealots to lob hand grenades over at one another and shit stir. A ton of better books for high school and college classes

4 commentairesThe mother claims her son couldn't finish Huckaberry Finn since the racial slurs in it upset him to much. She goes on to say that the books validate the acceptance of the word nigger. Really? So lets just ignore the books' historical context and stance against racism. Removing them and censoring the word is to ignore history and racism.

Im terrified of space but I'm willing to face that fear.
I love space, it's really cool and pretty, it is just terrifying, you can die in an instant. your in a void, all alone.

screw it, ill go to Russia or build my own space program. 1 commentaireIt's utterly stupid and quite dangerous. Censoring history (even the unpleasant parts) will do more damage then good. I am a firm believer in what George Santayana said:
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
I can only hope people will come to realize this before it's too late.

Dear god, this again? How many times has some frothing soccer mom tried to get one of these two banned now?

4 commentairesWhen the first Harry Potter book came out there were a few ministers who wanted it banned and told their congregation not to allow their kids to read it. Wizards and magic = Satan worship. Dumb. There was a youth minister at my church who said playing Dungeons and Dragons could lead to demonic possession. Extremely dumb.

Does that mean they're gonna ban The Green Mile book too?

Its really just another sign of the times. Liberal sensitivity is killing public education, free thinking and civil discourse.

Parents are so sensitive these days

How do you depict oppression without expressing/describing that oppression? Jeez.

4 commentairesI dunno, on one hand Huck Finn contains language that's considered hateful now, you don't want to give the impression that it is ever okay to use the n-word. In the other hand, that was the culture at the time; and I didn't get the idea that it was used hatefully, but it was still used disparagingly. It's the difference between what the word meant then, and what it means now; time has changed its context. Plus, if you're a black parent, you don't want your child thinking it's okay that people see them as lesser.
