I AM NOT FROM THE US!!!
Why do people have to explain everything to you in this place
So I've been playing Destiny with two other guys regularly, for a while now.
One of them I know from the 360 days, back in HoW and the other has been off and on for a while, but became a steady team mate this last spring.
I play with these guys daily. We chit chat about everything and nothing. We also live in kind of the same general area of the country.
Last night we finally met up and grabbed our first beer together. It was so strange to watch.
Here's this kid that just finished high school. Then there's this tall skinny dude in his mid 20's and a 32 year old man. Sitting in a bar, talking for 3 hours straight. Laughing and teasing each other about stuff from a video game. If anyone tried to eavesdrop they would not be able to make out what the -blam!- we were saying. So funny.
I had never met them before in real life, but like, as soon as we saw each other we just started yapping on and on. It wasn't like "Oh I've never seen this person in my life. This is awkward". No. It was like we were in party chat being business as usual.
A great evening and I think we bonded even more.
There, just wanted to share this with everyone :) Destiny is so much more than just another video game.

1 commentaireHave a similar story. Goes way back to Halo and Halo 2 days. I'm a 53 yr old man that's been playing games longer than most of you here have been alive. Met a few people on live playing H2 for hours, then days at a time. We would spend 6-7 hours a night playing as a 4 man crew. Calling each other by name due to the fact other team could hear us back then. Came to a point where one of the people took 6 of our mutual friends from my clan and stole them for his own. I called him out on it and we decided to rename and regroup. A few years, girlfriends, wives and kids later, after playing nonstop H2, we talked about using cell #'s instead of a "maybe he's playing tonight" attitude to get together to play. That escalated to "we need to pick a date and a place somewhere 1/2 way between us and meet up for a weekend. Go raid a hotel, bring the machines and just game. One of us in Michigan and the other in Ohio, it didn't seem like too much of a stretch to get together. The clan stealer friend is who I was looking to meet first. The date was the key factor. We decided it would be 1/2 way between our birthdays to celebrate everything at the same time. Turns out as we asked each other, it ends up we share the SAME birthday in June. Totally ironic and coincidental. Was an easy meet after that, and in the last 6 years, he has come north to Michigan to my house for weekends or weeks at a time to just game. Him and his brother are welcome anytime, and they know it. The next step is to get to Cali to meet our resident sniper in person. Had to share this as it still means a lot to me.

Met only one of my fireteam members in the real world.
Because we go to the same school.
Some of the others are close enough to where driving to them wouldn't be a problem, but none of us have talked about a meet up yet.

This is cool. Glad to hear you had a great experience.

49 commentairesModifié par d_Arkpassenger : 8/30/2016 8:21:29 PMI met my wife on the PSN. Seriously. 2009. If you had told me at any point before that, that I would marry someone I met online, I would have called you an idiot. But here we are 7 years later. Just celebrated 4 years of marriage this month. Life is strange. Edit: wow, not the response I expected...so yeah we actually met on psHome in 2009. Had some buddies I would bowl or shoot pool with there in between regular games, waiting for others and whatnot. She joined the fray as it were lol. We got along great over the mic. After a year or so she came out to Idaho from Tennessee, hung out with me and my daughter for a week, went to the Warped tour...other stuff... It was like we knew each other for years. After another year I went to visit her. Had a blast. 6mos later I moved there to help her with some family issues, we moved back here to Idaho, got married and are living happily ever after hahaha. So there you go. Neither of us was looking for this, we both had horrible experiences prior. It just happened. So crazy. Stay frosty Guardians👍✌😎

What a great story

5 commentairesI would like to but 2 of those cheeky -blam!-s are from Ireland, one is American and I'm German. This would be one costly meet-up.

I met my best friend on Borderlands on the 360 about 8 years ago now. I went to school with some mutual friends and his cousin was a few years above me. I never even spoke to his cousin to be fair. One day my friends and I we're playing and he joined in and we just went on from there. The first time we planned to meet up was in the local shopping centre, we got along in person great and it's funny to talk about it now because we both agree the first half hour was weird and awkward because we were kids. That half hour of awkwardness was well worth the 8 years though. We both grew up and we've always lived close and usually hang out once a week at his house and still do raids in Destiny 3 years on. Even though he has his own house, a girlfriend, doesn't really go on nights out and I'm the complete opposite, gaming has always been our anchor. Over the years I've met plenty of people, oversees and local, both on and offline and I've always enjoyed being more of a loner type (because people, -blam!- those guys right?) but games like Destiny have always kept us entertained. His girlfriend says we bicker like an old married couple... We do...

Back in my WoW days, before Burning Crusade, seven of my guild members met up in KC MO. We ran up a $300 bar tab...after din and drinks at a different location. Posted pictures on the guild website and other members guessed who was who. (NOVA vanish) It's great to read others having fun experiences along these lines.

I'd assume if I met my destiny friends in real life it'd go just like it does in the game Soon as the liquor started taking its effect and I start dosing off, they'd promote me to fireteam leader (leave me with the bill) and bounce 😢

4 commentairesDid you call each other by gamertags or real names?

That's awesome

3 commentairesI play with a ton of people that live in San Diego, and I live in Oklahoma. I definitely would like to visit me e-buddies, but only if I go to their home turf. 😎
-
Awesome. Can't wait until I can meet my fireteam IRL. It has to happen. For real.
-
3 commentairesSame here. Except we played PC games. It was fun. We met for lunch at 5 Guys.

1 commentaireI really -blam!-ed up in the head and when he said they went drinking my mind thought about those commercials that say "don't drink or drive"
-
9 commentairesGeh hay just sayin but then again people that spend all their life online cant find friends any other way so I approve of your message. everyone needs a real life friend. even if it is just one time for three hours
-
i actually did the same thing with my racing team back in forza4. i live in jersey but my team mostly lived in florida. at the time i was flying by myself to meetup with a bunch of racing buddies that i only talked to online. everyone thought i was crazy but i knew whatever happened it would be a good time. here we are years later and i still fly down there every year just to meetup with them even thought our team disbanded.

5 commentairesAwesome stuff :) Had quite a few experiences like this myself, and plan to have many more! (Actually here in 2 days as well)

1 commentaireThat's cool. My clanmates and I have been joking about meeting up for quite some time.

I did the same thing with a few people I met playing destiny. We all had a blast. Funniest thing was that we kept calling everybody by their gamertags lol. Good times. We'll be meeting up again fairly soon I'm sure as I consider them to be good friends.
