Let me paint a realistic scenario. A parent purchases Destiny for their boy of 10 years. Now this boy, was well-behaved, did well in school, never got into trouble, and he was a good big brother to his 6 year old sister. He never got into fights, never disobeyed his parents, and was all around respectful. But then he plays Destiny, where he is first exposed to excessive profanity. This well-behaved boy begins to utilize those words in his vocabulary. At first, his parents don't notice anything. But one day while they are gathered around the table during dinner, he says to his sister, "Pass the f***ing salt you b****!"
Can you see how tragic this is, how this formerly well-behaved boy was allowed to be corrupted by online vitriol? What kind of a family would allow their child to swear at his or her siblings? Not a functional one, I'll tell you that. Sadly, this is all too common in America. Swearing has become the norm in the American household and because of such, standards have fallen. There is no respect, no love, and no empathy. We reduce each other to objects to which we hurl our vile verbal excrement. This is a huge problem because not only can it ruin family life, it can also ruin the gaming experience.
I don't game much anymore, but when I do, I don't want to be called a son of a female dog, or a Richard-sucking bundle of sticks. I don't want to be told I'll be copulated in my donkey. I want to have fun and make new friends. But instead what I get is a bunch of ten year olds who have apparently slept with my mother and/or sister. Think this isn't a problem? It is a huge problem and it has even made itself manifest on bungie.net. Don't believe me? Scroll down and feast your eyes on all the screaming.
"But it's just words! Words are harmless." some will say. No...they aren't. The old saying "stick and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me." is completely false. Words can be some of the most harmful things. Furthermore, there is a correlation between profanity and anger. Consistent anger has been shown to have very negative physical effects on the body. When you let yourself get angry, your body automatically releases a stress hormone called cortisol. High levels of cortisol with the accompanying side effects “causes wear and tear on the heart and cardiovascular system.” Furthermore, anger also releases adrenaline, which can quickly deteriorate the body. So when you hurl your vitriol through the microphone towards the guy on the other end, not only are you damaging yourself, you are damaging him/her too.
"But you can't expect to control peoples' language in a game. Are you an idiot?!"
A few years ago this may have been true, but not anymore. Both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One have the software to recognize speech. I don't imagine it would be too difficult for Bungie to implement some sort of penalty system for profanity. If a player swears, he or she would be banned from Destiny for 5 minutes for the first offense, 10 minutes for the second, 15 minutes for the third, and every subsequent offense would see 5 more minutes added to the punishment.
"But people will just find ways around it!"
I'm sure they will. But just as most major dictionaries update their vocabulary to keep up with society, Bungie can update their profanity database to include the latest slurs and phrases. This is supposed to be a community of players people, not a community of haters.

You forgot to add "well you can mute it, but so what" to the story

People have taken satire too far. This isn't satire. Satire is used to make something/someone's opinion seem foolish through humor. This is not that. This is bait to try and get people to feel dumb. This is bait, not satire. Learn the difference. This is dumb at this point
-
Just cause you say it's satire, doesn't mean it is
fake longface
-
Guys this guy does something like this about once a month It's fake
-
I thought its t rating was for 13 + If you give it to your 10 year old... well they are gonna hear stuff... Besides in the online agreement you have to accept it says that because of PEOPLE they can not rate the online portion

Hey they did a study on profanity that proves the better you cuss the better your vocabulary and comprehension skills. Shit I'm a master at cussing in two languages so I must be a -blam!-ing genius
-
It seems a lot of people missed the satire tag...... Seriously though, one of the reasons I don't usually raid with kids is because I do swear a lot.
-
I totally -blam!-en agree bitch, I say -blam!- all the swearing and get this shit fixed and needed right -blam!-en now

1 commentaireHaha satire that is soooo funny btw I'm pretty sure the only word they use that may be considered profanity is when Zavala says "damn" in a Taken King quest line mission.
-
I know it says satire, but seriously, go back to Tumblr.
-
This isn't satire. Tagging it "Satire" doesn't make it satire.
-
Shut the -blam!- up you -blam!-ing pussy ass bitch

Cannot believe the amount of effort you put into this stuff. I didn't even read it.(started) It was too long and exhausting.

5 commentairesYou ignore clearly defined ratings and expect the rest of the world to raise your child. As a parent of three well under ten I would never let our kids game online, nor expect the rest of the world to cater to us if they did. I bet you are the type to move next to an airport only to petition noise complaints from the jets, lol.

Stop just stop.

4 commentairesWhat kind of parents buy their 10year old a rated t game?! And then expect him to not learn these words that he should have already known about! It is your -blam!-ing job as the parent to educate your kids. Simply explain to him the bad words and when and were they are to be used. There is a time and place for everything. Muted for being an incompetent parent.

Bad parents for buying their kid this game . Stopped reading
