In-game profanity should be penalized.

Let me paint a realistic scenario. A parent purchases Destiny for their boy of 10 years. Now this boy, was well-behaved, did well in school, never got into trouble, and he was a good big brother to his 6 year old sister. He never got into fights, never disobeyed his parents, and was all around respectful. But then he plays Destiny, where he is first exposed to excessive profanity. This well-behaved boy begins to utilize those words in his vocabulary. At first, his parents don't notice anything. But one day while they are gathered around the table during dinner, he says to his sister, "Pass the f***ing salt you b****!" Can you see how tragic this is, how this formerly well-behaved boy was allowed to be corrupted by online vitriol? What kind of a family would allow their child to swear at his or her siblings? Not a functional one, I'll tell you that. Sadly, this is all too common in America. Swearing has become the norm in the American household and because of such, standards have fallen. There is no respect, no love, and no empathy. We reduce each other to objects to which we hurl our vile verbal excrement. This is a huge problem because not only can it ruin family life, it can also ruin the gaming experience. I don't game much anymore, but when I do, I don't want to be called a son of a female dog, or a Richard-sucking bundle of sticks. I don't want to be told I'll be copulated in my donkey. I want to have fun and make new friends. But instead what I get is a bunch of ten year olds who have apparently slept with my mother and/or sister. Think this isn't a problem? It is a huge problem and it has even made itself manifest on bungie.net. Don't believe me? Scroll down and feast your eyes on all the screaming. "But it's just words! Words are harmless." some will say. No...they aren't. The old saying "stick and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me." is completely false. Words can be some of the most harmful things. Furthermore, there is a correlation between profanity and anger. Consistent anger has been shown to have very negative physical effects on the body. When you let yourself get angry, your body automatically releases a stress hormone called cortisol. High levels of cortisol with the accompanying side effects “causes wear and tear on the heart and cardiovascular system.” Furthermore, anger also releases adrenaline, which can quickly deteriorate the body. So when you hurl your vitriol through the microphone towards the guy on the other end, not only are you damaging yourself, you are damaging him/her too. "But you can't expect to control peoples' language in a game. Are you an idiot?!" A few years ago this may have been true, but not anymore. Both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One have the software to recognize speech. I don't imagine it would be too difficult for Bungie to implement some sort of penalty system for profanity. If a player swears, he or she would be banned from Destiny for 5 minutes for the first offense, 10 minutes for the second, 15 minutes for the third, and every subsequent offense would see 5 more minutes added to the punishment. "But people will just find ways around it!" I'm sure they will. But just as most major dictionaries update their vocabulary to keep up with society, Bungie can update their profanity database to include the latest slurs and phrases. This is supposed to be a community of players people, not a community of haters.

  • Ok lazy as hell. And did read past what kid this is bla bla....... If 'kid' is playing Destiny, then his is use the internet. Enough said. No? OK if you say so. Can't sensor the Internet. YouTube. Look up anything about games and how to anything. Boom! First words out of tuber's mouth is hi and F bombs. Dose this ' kid ' not watch tv? Ever kid's show now a days. Say's what use to be cussing for TV when I was 10. Damn. Hell. Ass. But not hole, to close to ass. Even heard dick. Once or twice. Dose the ' kid ' not go out of the house. Because people on the street, kids in his school, teachers, family member's. Written advertising everywhere. So on so on and so on. I cuss all the time. Two teen kids that don't cuss. Not out of fear. No. Because there smart, and know cussing is stupid, and for stupid people like myself. So move to Alaska or war stricken to get away from all the bad influences on this perfect ' kid '. To me sound's like bad parenting, for not educating the ' kid ' in the ways of appropriate language for kiddos. That's what I did. But I never baby talked. Or talk down to my kids always treated them like people. Idiot children or small animals. What would I know? Just a high school drop out how had kids at 18 and 19. 33 now and cuss like a dirty sailor. But unlike all the kids I've play with in game. I'm not disgusting vile and not trying to impress people with how cool my cussing is. Like the kiddos I've play with. Learned a bunch of new ways to disgusted with American children. Such gem's like. From an 11 year old. Told me without me asking. What sate he is in. A lot note personal information. Oh, plus, told me to ' f ' my momma's.... You see where I'm going. 11 years old. I stopped play for the day after that one. Gross. To damn bad you the one who posted this will never read it. Shame no one will really. Shame. Now I feel like I'm on Facebook. Facebook how many kids off them self's because of Facebook? A lot. The death of one is a tragedy.

Satire...really op you had nothing better to post. I'll bite. The game is rated teen, if the parent doesn't pay attention to this, their fault. Next, if this is an issue for the parent guess what, don't let your preteen child play online, disable chat, or only let them party chat with known friends.

You can report anyone who cusses and it will block them as well. On PlayStation you load their profile and click the options button on the controller. Submit grief report for offensive language and submit it. With enough reports they can get permanently banned.

TLDR subjecting your kid to online gaming at the age of 10 means. He/she will be influenced by every gamer they meet. The Teen rating goes out the window once online player interaction becomes a thing. In short: get over it...
