Peter Dinklage Nailed It... Period. (Updated with Nolan's "We've Woken the Hive?" link)
Many of you are too young to remember classic sic-fi and don't hear what Dinklage hitched his performance to. It's very classic 2001 A Space Odyssey-ish. Tomorrow he will be replaced by Nolan North. While North is a great voice actor, his rendition already sounds hi pitched and whiny. Trust me, you'll all regret pushing the Dinklebot out the door when you have a few hundred strikes with a C3P0 squealing in your ear. The Ghost isn't human, it shouldn't sound human. It should sound like a mini-extension of an ancient and omnipotent being: the Traveler. Dinklage nailed it...period.
***To be clear this is not an anti-Bungie post. Also, this isn't worth getting pissed over. I just think it is a shame.

You make an interesting point about the "we've woken the hive!" it shouldn't be an exclamation point ending the sentence, the way he says it there is makes it sound like there should be a period at least but a question mark suites the sentence better.

His line when you spawn into Venus Patrol is legit the wimpiest thing I've ever heard. It's like our macho, doesn't-give-a-f**k attitude Ghost has been replaced with a book nerd.

yup they really had a fail on the new voice generally speaking. I didn't mind the old ghost. I don't think that had much to do with the change any way. The new version is just so bad though.

Nothing against nolanbot but yea dinklebot was way better.

I was doing the Venus quests for the re-tooled assault rifle that was once a Rare and now Legendary (the name escapes me atm), and everyone in my fireteam hated it. Like, we all went out of our way to say how much we hated it. I've seen a couple cutscenes where it's better, but this was a sheer dog-sh*t move by Bungie. They wasted so much money to get someone else to redo all the lines instead of asking Dinklage to redo a couple lines. You had him in the studio way back when and you didn't think to have him vary some readings just in case? Even still, I loved Dinklage's Ghost performance. It wasn't the best thing ever, but it was consistent and his voice is awesome for line reading. I don't know why Bungie thought everyone hated him, only the ones that hated Dinklage said anything about it, and I didn't know any of those people and it never came up on any Destiny posts/stories I read over this past year. Now I have one more reason not to buy The Taken King.

Honestly ntb. While dinklebots voice was deep, North just has a better feel to his voice. But hey, to each their own.

2 commentairesI like Nolan's new lines (patrol mission banter) but I do miss some of the old story lines. I finished tier 5 of one of those charge collection races, and my Ghost said "I wonder if Ikora hugs ghosts?"

3 commentairesim sure nolan could have sounded more animated, but i think bungie told him to say it that way. if they wanted him to yell it, and he said it like he did, i think they do it.

6 commentairesHe sounds more surprised about it. This makes sense because Earth hasn't really seen a huge influx of Hive since the Moon was taken. It essentially means something big is happening: the wakening of Crota.

I think the new voice is more 'robot-like'. Of course it's a huge difference! The only thing I don't like is that he sounds a little childish at times. I could go for some 'Oh Shit' or 'you suck at this' as well! We're supposed to be elite mercenaries not stage performers.

No one pushed Dinklage out. He couldn't commit to the 10 years even if the community wanted him to.

Also, in many cases, it seems like he is somehow [i]less[/i] enthusiastic-sounding about his line-reading than Peter Dinklage sounded. I'd take Peter Dinklage over Nolan North, even before they put the AI sound effects onto Dinklage's voice-over (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UrRfIpkStA) to give it more personality (and make it sound more like an AI). Such a thing didn't seem to work with Nolan North, because it still sounds too human.
