So who is going to ruin it for themselves by reaching level 40 on 15th?
Edit: 6 levels in one day. Is it possible when it comes out?
Edit 2: I guess the proof will be in the pudding. I get that most stuff is playable at and after lvl 40. Let's hope it really is worth it!
Edit 3: I didn't envisage the response this thread would. Nor did I know the raid would be out three days later. Still, wonder how Bungie want us to play this game.
I imagine a lot of people are going to try and become lvl 40 day one of TTK.
To those who do I say you are silly and foolish. Don't moan there's fuk all to do till the raid drops because you ranked too quickly.

40 is just an Xp level not light level you will also need better armor and weapons to take decent damage or do decent damage which will make you grind even more

Me probably. Max level doesn't mean what it used to though. You can hit 40 & still have crap gear.

Time will tell, but a lot of XP is going to be thrown at us on release day, especially if you're preparing for it by stocking up on bounties and XP rewards. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more than a few that make it to 40 on the first day. That's not where the game ends, though. That's where it begins. All the endgame activities are for level 40. It would stand to reason that there wouldn't be much to do UNTIL you hit the level cap. I completely understand what you're saying, though. The last two DLC's had people flocking to the forums complaining about a lack of content when they had just spent 48 hours straight grinding away to get all three characters to max before anyone else did.

I will hit 40 (or close) when I turn my bounties and event packages in with a focused light on.

who cares if they hit 40, their light level will be low with green, and maybe some blue gear. They wont cause more damage than anyone else out there. Its all about the light level on your emblem for all to see, people need to start grasping this concept.

How is that ruining anything, theres still the new subclass that will need leveling up plus people have 3 characters to level up, getting to lvl 40 is nothing, leveling 3 characters and there subclasses day one that would be ruining it, but I doubt its even possible

That's not gonna ruin it whatsoever. Why don't people understand? We're not getting easy mode ascension anymore, we're getting hardcore infusion. Which is awesome! Light level still matters, and exists, it's just been redefined. To level up a gun/piece of armour you need a stronger piece. Now that's all fun and dandy when you're leveling rares, but when all tower gear comes at the same level? That means you need to build one up and above the one you want to sacrifice it to the one you want!

When I finish the story I'll probably be close to 40, that's fine. This forum will burn on 16th when the "I've hit 40 already" brigade start. Too bad nobody seems to be able to read these days. 40 is a tiny part of a much bigger system. Finding high level gear for light level, earning marks for exotic blueprints and doing the extra quests is going to take a LOT longer than getting to 40, and it will be fun, which is all that matters. does anyone realise you could get from start-40 by playing control, wearing white gear the whole way? 40 means little.
