You need to take into account what the Trials of Osiris is; a heavily teamwork-oriented experience. Since the mode is a re-skinned Skirmish mode (supposedly) exclusive the Burning Shrine map, coordinated teams of three will likely win out uncoordinated teams of people, even if they are potentially more skilled on an individual level.
