I've long held the position that Skyrim isn't really an RPG, it's an action game - there are almost no choices that matter. It's a lot of fun, but it's not really an RPG.
DAI is an RPG, you have to pay some attention as the decisions you make will change the course of the game to a certain extent - nothing that will break it, but....
Personally, I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I also love Skyrim, all the recent posts here made me decide to start up yet another new game (first one in 6 months, I'll be traveling next week so the PC gets all the attention for a bit).
So.... fo read up on the Dragon age lore, though. Not mandatory for DAI, but helpful.

Np. The Dragon age wiki at wikia is pretty good, they do a good job of keeping the games separate, so when you read up on Leliana, for example, there's not a lot of spillover from the current game into everything else.
