So just to sum it all up:
1). You didn't read any of the DLC updates or notes (because they talked about the self-contained economy of the new Raid).
2). You didn't bother to look at the upgrade nodes of the new armor you'd received (because the nodes say pretty clearly what they require).
3). You for some reason believed that the gear you got in the first three months of the game's release was going to remain the best gear through two DLCs.
4). All of that is Bungie's fault.

I have new gear I just hoped that my onehundred some odd shards would be worth something at least to trade up. you should take a reading and understanding course.
