This is awesome news. I went through all three articles posted and look forward to the dlc even more now. Many changes that I wasn't expecting at all. Awesome. Here's a quick overview.
- story missions closely resemble exotic bounties now with multiple steps.
- normal raid available at release, hard raid end January.
- story missions include more mechanics like not being able to jump but having to navigate while fighting on the ground to avoid dangers on the floor.
- raid gear won't use legendary mats but their own mats dropped from raid. You can also swap them for the other ie shards for energy and the other way around.
- the story missions branch off leading up to the new strike and one up to the new raid! They're not just thrown in but you need to progress into the content.
- exotics upgrade through xur. You trade in an old exotic, an exotic shard and something else to receive the higher stat improved exotic. Old exotics traded can be fresh or leveled up already.
There's more that's just what I'm excited about.

My problem: when you trade an exotic, its progress is reset, and you have to spend even more mats as well as additional exotic shard to level it fully again.

Just means more work. I do believe there should be compensation if it is maxed but we'll see. If exotics had somehow bigger benefits I could see it.

It's just moderately annoying. I don't see why they don't just bump up damage and then add another damage upgrade to make it hit maxed. I've been trying to level exotics since I first got them, and I'm about 3/4 done. It isn't the worst thing possible. Again, it's just annoying
