Some people don't have a very flexible schedule and this happens to be their time to play.
This would have been prime time for me to level a new character, given my work schedule, but oh well. Am I irritated? Mildly. The time and day they chose for long maintenence seems a bit foolish and I think in part that contributes to many of the people's frustration. I wouldn't get too hung up on the plethora of "whiny" posts. It was bound to happen.

I don't think it really matters which day they would've chosen to do maintenance on. This would've interfered with SOMEONE'S work schedule. Still, whining over one day of not being able to play a little video game isn't going to make things better. Being a little ticked is totally understandable but the situation is what it is. If you bought Destiny you knew beforehand that these things would happen, you know?

I've delt with much worse. Waiting for someone to get off their ass and do their work so you can do your's and go home. Video game wise... WoW was a pain in the ass.

Haha I've never played it so I'll take your word for it.

Try this. Launch destiny, but wait at the press x to play screen. Go to PS Settings>PSN>Sign Out. Then Sign In. Then back into destiny and proceed as usual. Got me back online after having that weird connection permission error.

Worked like a charm. Much appreciated. Kudos to you.

I understand being annoyed, today was my day off, too. What I cannot understand is the people acting like this is the worst thing that has happened in their life, pulling up pitchforks and going after developers. People need to understand that in a 24/7 industry like worldwide online gaming there will NEVER be a "good" time to do maintenance. There will be other days where video games can happen

I would also like you all to realize, yeah, you can't play today, but I haven't been able to play since the 20th and some people before me. Am I pissed? No. Mainly because they're doing a better job than I could ever imagine of doing, and probably better than any of the people bitching could do.
