Don't forget that you can only be 30 with 3 raid pieces and an exotic or a full set of raid gear.

By raid gear, do you mean Vanguard Gear or Crucible Gear?

You have to have raid gear to be level 30

Nope, from Vault of Glass. It's the only Legendary gear that can get to light rating of 30. Otherwise the Vanguard and Crucible can only reach a light rating of 27.

What's the most light exotics give? 36? If they do, then you don't need raid gear. If they give less, I need to edit my original post.

Exotics give 30 when fully upgraded.

Exotics give 30. Raid 30. Normal Legendaries 27.
