To each his own.
Mass effect and the elder scrolls were some of my least favorite games of all time. Story is nice but gameplay is what matters. I haven't played a shooter with this caliber gameplay since the original halos.
I had to play the original halo several times through to figure out what was going on story wise. Even then, the universe was massively hidden from the game. You were just sort of dropped in, the covenant, the flood, the ring, the forerunners. It gave you virtually nothing but quick background blurbs.
As for destiny. There's a few areas I think it lacks, but I could say that about every game I loved. Overall the gameplay is fantastic, the universe is intriguing, and the MMO elements are brand new to online shooters and are really exciting.
As for DLC, we'll see. I don't pre-buy things. Especially not video games. Some of the most popular games end up being your least favorite, skyrim for me. While sometimes obscure mediocre titles actually become your favorite games of all time, prototype for me.

So why did Destiny go backwards and tell the story like Halo 1? And even then, at least Halo 1 had some kind of plot with reasoning and consequences, other than you good, they bad, go kill, like the whole twist of finding out the ring is actually a super weapon.

Dont know, just saying this seems to be Bungies approach. Massive fascinating universe with deep lore. Drop you in the middle at a hugely climactic moment and just give you vague tid bits. It's how halo went down, it's how destiny appears to be designed. I think the biggest difference is people's expectations. I think people are holding up years worth of story telling from halo against the initial release of Bungies new IP. Either way, im a gameplay guy. Destiny may never come anywhere close to halos story telling and I won't really care that much. I'm not counting on it in the slightest.

I can agree with you there. It really has the best shooter mechanics I've ever played :)
