1) Bungie hasn't said if there will be proximity chat in the final release -- but I'm not personally expecting it to be in. I'd be surprised.
2) Trading loot with others was confirmed at one point -- I don't think they've said up to this point exactly what that entails.
A mic is a must for this game, I agree. I'm also very excited to play with other GAF'ers. I've been trying to add a bunch of people from here to my friends list in anticipation of the Beta -- is YesterdazeHero your PSN? I'll shoot you a request!

During the Alpha, We couldn't trade anything with each other. I tried a couple times with Super_BOSS to prioritize game chat, and it just failed to allow us to hear each other or talk to others. Leaving the Party chat made it possible to hear and talk to each other, so being in a fireteam will at least let you talk to your team without a Party Chat. As for mics, I would say 99% of Gafers use a mic. Actually just bought a new one just for Destiny, its the Razer Kraken Pro, and works flawlessly on PS4. I can now whisper into my microphone, and everyone hear me loud and clear. Basically, I would suggest picking one up if you need something good in the 60$ range with great sound quality.

Believe it or not, I'm still using my ole trusty rusty Turtle Beach XP 500's. Best headset I've ever owned. Sucks I have to use the chat cable with them, but the XP500 is miles ahead of the Sony Gold headset I bought as far as audio & mic quality in my opinion.

Yeah man, I have the Sony Pulse Elite headphones, and they suck so bad. They are OK audio wise, but the mic sucks, and the battery life blows hard. I have used the XP500's, they are really good! Glad you got something you can feel comfortable playing with.
