The Ninjas and the Mentors are two seperate roles, but we do collaborate quite a bit. Whereas the Ninjas serve as the moderators of Bungie.net, the Mentors are here to serve as the white gloves of the Bungie.net community.

We all know Bricy's white gloves are covered in dirt and filth. He should probably wash them.

Then Mentors are here to help users who are new to Bnet. They exist to become people who positively contribute to the community. They will aid in helping people who do not fully understand the Bungie community by editing and redirecting their post to the correct area of discussion. They will aid in helping users who are unsure what is appropriate conversation on the Bungie forums by editing their post or by making sure their post is placed in the correct forum. In addition, they will help in the aid of identifying of the discussion that is not welcome here. They will be able to rapidly advance that inappropriate discussion the users who can distinguish harmful conversation from that which is not, the Forum Ninjas. They serve to help the users who are here to built a community while simultaneously helping to protect the people who are here trying to join our community who are ignorant to our process.

This sounds daunting, considering the huge number of alts around here.

Help new people? We should just throw them to the wolves. If the survive they are clearly worthy of joining our ranks.
