I will be spending the evening worrying about my brother, who is at Children's National Hospital for a head injury. He

will be staying overnight and will be getting a CT scan at 5 AM. He was riding a longboard down a very steep hill and lost his balance when he hit a large rock on the road, causing him to fall off the board. I was on the phone with my dad as I was walking out of my house and saw it in the corner of my eye. I kept yelling expletives as I ran towards him. I dropped my phone and saw my brother was not moving at all. Fearing he had sustained a spinal or neck injury I tried to rouse him my calling his name and snapping loudly in front of his face. Then when I still received no response I used my fingers to lightly pull back his eyelid to see if the pupil would respond. His eyes stayed absolutely still and had no reaction whatsoever to the increased light. At this point I thought my brother had died. I then put my pointer finger and middle finger in front of his nostrils and mouth and felt nothing. I was really frightened at this point. This took about 20 seconds.
Then I looked up to access the situation and check if there were any cars coming, pieces of glass, blood, or other harmful objects around him. His longboard was approx. 10 feet behind him, which combined with his sprawled position on his left side showed he had rolled. I immediately picked up the phone and my dad told me to call my mom, which I did. At this point my brother had been unresponsive for about a minuet to a minuet and a half. While retrieving the board I looked back to see him take in a breath and move his shoulder. This made a spark of happiness surge throughout me as I now knew my brother was alive.
I ran over to him and he asked where he was and he complained that he had a headache. His voice was slightly monotone and distant, fearing memory loss I asked what the last thing he remembered was. His response scared me, he said he was just at his friend's house waiting for my mom (about 20min earlier). During his mumbling I cleaned out the gravel in his mouth and started to wipe up the blood. I helped him to his feet and then to the house. I then tried lead him to the couch as it would be comfortable, let him stretch out, and most importantly provide support if he had a back or head injury.
My mom soon arrived and we took him to Fredrick Memorial Hospital. During the drive he would continue to ask where he was, why he was there, and complained about blurry vision, nausea, dizziness, and a headache. I continued to reply with he had fallen off his board and that we were taking him to FMH as he was forgetting conversations and had a probable concussion.
When we arrived I continued to repeat the same conversation I had with him the first time about 19 more times. Eventually he started to resume his mannerisms and this made me feel better. Also the gaps in between repeating conversations lengthened. Eventually we made it to the pediatric wing and they took over, dressing his wounds and studying his mental state he had returned to a normal mental state at this point. We (thankfully) decided to get a CT scan. He had major road burn on his lower back; scraping on his knees, knuckles, palms, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and nose; and a fracture in his skull (bones are still aligned), which caused external bleeding on the back of his head and bleeding within the skull.
He was then medivacted to Children's in DC with my father. I drove with my mother and arrived sometime around 9:40 EST. He was mainly asleep during this whole ordeal and was only briefly awake to smile and make a joke, then awake for a longer conversation about how he was going to be okay and on Wolfenstien: The New Order. The doctors forced me to leave the room around 10:30 EST and I left with my father and stepmom. My mother is currently staying with him. I got back to my house at around 1:15 EST. Tomorrow morning at 5:00 EST he has another CT scan, which if the subdural bleeding has worsened he will go into surgery to relieve the pressure.
He fell around 3:02 PM EST and it has been almost 12 hours since, I'm exhausted not only physically but mentally too. I probably left some details out, but there is not much left in me. I will not be allowed to see him till 10:00 AM and am worried sick. I thought I lost my brother today, and... It's stressful. If you see him around just wish him luck, his name on the flood is Shai99.
I apologize for the word wall... And as it has been 12 hours since my brother Ian fell, I will going and trying to sleep, thank you all for being such wonderfully amazing people.

Update: [13:11] I will be attending my step sister's college graduation party today by my brother's request and that of my family. The CT scan showed the the bleeding had stayed about the same, but they wish to keep him there overnight again for observation. Surgery is very unlikely and this has been good news for a change.
Update: [18:00] My step sister's graduation went great, taking photos it not only got my mind off Ian, but I got some great photos too. The best part is that the doctors cleared my brother, so he is coming home! It has been a very stressful 27 hours and after we get him home we will all take a very long nap. He isn't allowed to do much of anything but can now sleep in his own bed and not be strung up. We have to go back in 2-3 weeks to make sure that he is 100%. Also you guys made him feel much better, thank you all. I will now go pass out for as long as possible.
