And yet every gaming fandom fights to include PVP, as if this kind of dickery is magically going to go away.

  • It's not going to go away, but that's a really terrible reason to remove PvP. That's just the risk you take when you choose to play with strangers.

    Sure with friends it is fine. Clans and guilds support also help. I would highly suggest when you begin your career making games that you consider a mechanic on the front end that forces communication and team work. Vehicles requiring precise teamwork. Players needing each other to get back up if knocked down. Complex timing on missions. Extremely fun activities in PVP. Indiana Jones. Racing. Playable mega bosses and Juggernaught modes. Bungie sounded like they just wanted a game that was just extremely fun over the caustic playground it became in matchmaking. The game that can build friend lists wins hearts and minds. But those Mics have to come back on and anything that forces communication that solves problems will go a long way in that.
