The whole thing went to shit when they decided to toss out the dark energy ending/story. It was basically the same thing as gurren Lagann, which would have been ok because it's a lot better than the shit we got instead.

Well they're the same in that a more powerful being/race destroys organic life because organic life uses a power that tears apart the fabric of the universe (spiral power vs biotics). But a mass effect giant robot would be cool too
