Gotta be honest, all these games have to run under the steam os and architecture, how will this be anything other than just another console. On top of that, who wants to play with that piece of shit steam controller?
Wont waste my time with this.

1) Valve has already confirmed that you can install Windows onto the Steam Box. A Steam Box is just a PC preloaded with SteamOS on it. 2) You don't have to use Valve's Steam controller. You can use any controller that you want to use. 3) All the games on the SteamOS are also available on Windows. 4) Steam Boxes use standard x64 architecture and not some funky architecture.
3) All the games on the SteamOS are also available on Windows.
SteamOS is Linux based, so Windows based Steam games won't work. SteamOS is just pointless.

Beyond that, they've been expanding their Linux compatibility, I'm sure they've been doing that in preparation for the Steambox.

Edited by BritLemon: 11/27/2013 7:15:33 PMLet me rephrase. SteamOS is pointless for now as the amount of games that can run on it are tiny compared to the Windows based ones.

Indeed. I wouldn't buy a day one model if I were to keep SteamOS on it, if I ever bought one at all that is. We'll see, but for the moment I'm okay with my computer, which is the only thing I don't really understand about the Steam Box. It doesn't really appeal to me as an existing PC user.

Edited by BritLemon: 11/27/2013 7:32:26 PMI think it's supposed to be aimed at those looking to play on a PC, but don't know how to get going or how to build one.

That makes sense.
