I never liked Ashley. She was extra redundant seeing as my Shepard was a Soldier to begin with, but the added factor of being a racist made me want to send her out of the airlock the first chance I got, or just 'accidentally' leave her behind when we left a planet.
Saren took care of her for me, and I commend him for that.

Redundancy of abilities isn't really an issue for my Shepard. I'm an Adept, so Ashley has no overlap with me at all, and Kaidan has his tech abilities. While his biotic abilities overlap with mine, that's not necessarily a bad thing to me, as I use Liara with my Shepard. I like to completely lock down the battlefield, however, with Liara, I don't have much use for him bioticly.
