Quick Fact: The "Didact's Gift" retrieved from the Cauldron is a durance.
Quick Fact: Reports of remaining S-II's using Mk. VI in the field exist, but are highly classified.
How very interesting. Why would they keep secret Spartan II´s using Mark VI? SII´s are public knowledge...
But who´s Durance? Neither Didact is dead, and the Librarians was in that complex on the mission Reclaimer, not in the Cauldron area.
Also, nothing about SIV augmentations yet, Cobra? You should make a thread about this on Archive in The Cataloge or something.

I think also a question to bring up is how the hell did the Durance get to new Phoenix and why? If you remember in one of the Spartan Ops cut scenes there was a memory of it being there...
-
You´re confused. What showed the memories of New Pheonix was a shard of the Janus Key. The Durance is what Jul obtained at the end of Spartan Ops when he was at the Cauldron and directed Requiem into the sun and we saw the Didact symbol.

Edited by ROBERTO jh: 9/15/2013 2:10:22 PMThe Durance was what was recovered in Episode 4, Chapter 5, at the cauldron base. This was followed by the "Didact's Gift" opening up and revealing the memories of NP, followed shortly by Thorne storming out in a rage and getting sucked into the Artifact and transferred to Requiem. What RomanGladiator is referring to, is the Artifact was actually in New Phoenix in the memories the Durance revealed. For some reason, that Artifact was on Earth at the time of Didact's attack, which caused Thorne to ask "why did those people see you..." The Janus Key had nothing to do with those events, that was the device Jul had half of at the end of the Season.

Ah, I got confused. Haven´t play SO in a very long time.
-
No, the cutscene was from before the Janus Key. 2:29. We see memories stored in the "Promethean soul" that show pictures of New Phoenix getting composed.
-
Because New Phoenix was composed who knows how many months before? It´s not impossible that the digitized forms or information could have reached Requiem. Or the Forerunners could have something similar to a Domain, where all information could be uploaded and it was accessed from Requiem, hence all the new Knights which were from composed Humans.
-
A Durance is a device used by Forerunners to store memories and thought patterns of the deceased.
-
But aren´t they unique to each Forerunner who dies? As far as I know they don´t contain multiple Forerunner essences in them, just the one that died, hence why they are given to the family of the dead.
-
Yeah I misread your post when you said "who's". Someone already corrected you, but it sounded like you said "who is" Durance, not "whose Durance is it?" Sorry about that, but to answer your question, I believe it was merely a Promethean Knight, built out of the attack on New Phoenix, not necessarily any named character (yet).

*whose Durance?
-
You are correct sir.

Quite right. *straightens bow-tie*
