When it comes down to determining which is more important when buying a game which do you prefer?
This question can be made difficult considering games aren't cheap and you want to get your money's worth. Then there may be the fact that you like to play games with your friends. Then there's those game experiences where money's worth and playing with friends dont even matter because its just that good. What do you guys think?

How about no campaign and great multiplayer?
-
I honestly prefer great campaign and great multiplayer, what would make it better is if campaign plus multiplayer combined, just like destiny, sort of.
-
Case in point: BioShock and/or BioShock Infinite pitted against Halo 4. Not saying H4 was an overall mediocre experience, but the campaign was mostly decent while the multiplayer went the Halo of Duty route before falling to the wayside. Give me something akin to BioShock with a stellar solo experience devoid of multiplayer as opposed to something that is somewhat well-rounded, but really middling in regards to single- and multiplayer.

5 RepliesI want an awesome campaign with an awesome story and an entertaining and addictive mulitplayer.
I'm talking about Halo 3.
2 RepliesAmazing multiplayer no campaign? Thats what i would pick
-
Campaign is the priority to me.
-
I can't stand it when people say they won't play a game cuz it has no multiplayer, multiplayer doesn't make the game! It's the campaign, that's what makes you fall in love with it cuz you think about it and you like it not just cuz you can play with some random stranger
-
Amazing campaign and no multiplayer. Though if you can have something like Halo CE where you have an amazing campaign and an amazing multiplayer, it's even better.
-
I like campaigns better

1 ReplyIf I absolutely had to pick one over the other it would have to be something with an amazing campaign and no multiplayer. Aside from Mass Effect 3 I hardly ever play any multiplayer games anymore, and besides, all of my favorite games ever have been exclusively single-player with the exception of Halo. I'd much rather developers focus on their stories than multiplayer, but I won't ever complain over there actually being a multiplayer as long it's enjoyable and doesn't detract at all from the strength of the story or anything.
-
2 RepliesI want an amazing campaign. I don't necessarily care if there's multiplayer, but if there is, that's just an added bonus.
-
7 RepliesAmazing campaign. If you can make memorable characters, interesting stories, and immersive gameplay, you already have my vote (IE: Naughty Dog. Huge fan, but I haven't tried The Last of Us yet because I don't like Zombie games. But the Jak and Daxter series is my favourite ever. Of all time.)

It's an interesting topic that will always come down to your personal opinion. I'd rather look at the larger picture and not vote, considering this will become a decision that will not be a factor in the near future. If you take any note-worthy thoughts going into this next generation, take into consideration that Single-Player, Multi-Player, and Co-op are now becoming one. It's going to eventually come to the point of ridding yourselves of the start menu. I'll use Destiny as my example. You won't start up Destiny and choose between "Play Single-Player" or "Play Multi-Player." It's just: "Play Destiny." Depending on your personal preference, your playstyle will reflect your choice. That's my take on the topic. Thanks for the topic, it triggered an interesting thought that I enjoyed fleshing out.

Where's the amazon multiplayer option?
-
With most games, I'd prefer the amazing campaign. There are only a few games I'll spend time in multiplayer on, so for most I'm primarily looking for a good campaign.
-
I buy games because of the AMAZING campaign and if it has a good multiplayer then that just makes the game better.
-
It's completely possible to make good Campaign and Multiplayer. See: Mass Effect 3, original Halo: CE. Companies can't make excuses. They're just not trying hard enough.
-
2 RepliesMP is just a bonus. Campaign is where its at.
-
I prefer both to be amazing.
-
The whole point of a game is for the Campaign, the story, the plot, to understand it. Multiplayer is merely an extension, to keep the player playing the game. I re-beat Halo 2 at least twice a year simply because it has an amazing campaign. Don't get me wrong, the Halo 2 multiplayer was genius and you would not find me outside in that time. You asked a very broad question. It really depends on the game you're talking about. I'd have to say a good campaign and a good multiplayer. No matter how good the campaign, no one wants the game to die out once everyone finishes it. HalfState

7 RepliesDepends on the game. Like with Red Dead and GTA games it's all about the multiplayer for me. I don't bother with the single player. Same with like Battlefield and Cod games the campaign I just get through once and play the multiplayer for the next 5 years. Then there are games like Tomb Raider, Skyrim, Saints Row, and such which are all about the fun single player experience. Then there are games like Mass Effect and Halo which have both an enjoyable single player experience and multiplayer one (not counting the newer Halos of course, multiplayer is crap in Reach and 4).
-
As you get older, you start to appreciate the campaign more. At least, that's what I have realized. Campaign is the most important part.
-
Honestly I say for any game to start out they should focus there first game specifically on enriching the player on the story and while giving some sort of pat time firefight/ horde like co-op experience so the player doesn't get entirely sick of the game and throw it in the corner. Now their second game they still focus on the story while adding some competitive halo like mp, and keep improving its core and keeping the player entertained.

Edited by Psycho: 11/8/2013 10:39:49 PMI'd really love a good amazing story. The multiplayer can be cheap as -blam!- as long as its enjoyable and you can interact with other players. Heck just look at Team Fortress 2. That was class.
-
I like both these kinds of games.

9 RepliesReplayability is all in the multiplayer.
