Having lived in South Florida for 40 years, I can vouch that nearly any body of water will sooner or later, have alligators. http://goo.gl/maps/kg2Qb That map shows the C-51 canal (runs alongside SR-80 and then follows beside I-95). I spent years water-skiing that run (you could slalom from bank to bank as long as you ducked under the bridges) and there were always gators in that water. They're not that big of a deal. Except for nesting mothers (never mess with them) or appearing as "snatch prey" at the waters edge (which is how they typically feed). If you're in the water with them? Not really an issue.
