The Porsche 911 has a MSRP of $84,300. I could buy and assemble a kit car or modify a cheaper sports car in my garage for a small fraction of that price, and if I did choose to spend that much money, the car I built would likely have a larger, more powerful engine, better tires, a top-notch racing frame and suspension, and would be custom tailored to my needs and desires (such as not including features I don't really use, like mirrors on the sun visor or FM radio).
Now why is it, you think, that I still would prefer to purchase the Porsche if I had the money to do so?

I think what Foman is trying to say is that he does it for the ladies.

I don't game on PC for reasons PC gamers think I don't game on PC. I have the know how to put together a gaming rig and I have friends that could help me. I know I can get a really nice gaming PC put together for a relatively decent price. I know a good PC rig beats a gaming console any day when it comes to graphics and performance. When it comes down to it though I don't game on PC because it's a solo deal. YOU play by YOURSELF when you game on PC. I'm a party style gamer and when me and my friends get together for LAN parties and such it's much easier to have multiple people on single consoles than it is for people to lug their PC rigs around. Console gaming is much more convenient when playing with friends. I can have 8 friends over playing on 2 xboxs and 2 tvs. I'm also a Halo fanboy so I'll be sticking with Xbox for that reason in particular. Halo is the reason I even have a gaming console tbh...

This is a very good point. I play both console and PC, but I play video games mostly to unwind nowadays, as I don't have many gamer friends, so definitely PC gaming isn't for everyone. I'm sure you know that you can get PC compatible xbox 360 controllers that connect to a bluetooth usb dongle, so yeah, maybe it'd be cool if PC games started getting Co-op options? Plenty of PC gamers play their games on full screen TVs.

I played some H2V with a wired 360 controller. It would be nice if PC games added a co-op option. What would be even nicer is for the next gen xbox to come with the ability to do more than 4 player. It obviously wouldn't work for split-screened games but games like NHL or Madden could benefit from it.

yeah, have like 2 outputs or something? It'd require tons of ram for that, but yeah, it'd be cool.

Marry me.

That is a terrible analogy

-
This is. Putting a car together is MUCH, MUCH more difficult than putting together a PC.
-
I would argue that assembling a car is about as easy for a car enthusiast as assembling a PC is for a tech enthusiast. When I was 16, one of my neighbors and a good friend, who was also 16, purchased the rusty hull of a 1969 Corvette. Along with his dad and a couple of other friends, we purchased the parts and assembled the car in one summer. It was certainly time consuming, but no more "difficult" than assembling a PC would be for a person who only has a lay knowledge of computers.
-
I agree with Postwarbean, that if time is money, then in the example, it's more costly to build a car, but every analogy has limitations. I definitely agree with you, though, as a PC gamer who understands that PC isn't for everyone in every situation.

Because you have no mechanical knowledge?

Why haven't I ever thought of an example like this?

Well I don't see how this is relevant to the Xbox, so please explain more. But to answer your question, the Porsche, because of the brand.
-
Well that doesn't REALLY answer my question. The question is why would I prefer to purchase the Porsche if I had the money to do so? "The brand" isn't really the answer because I could easily fake a Porsche logo/symbol and put it onto my kit/self-assembled car. The answer to this question should supply the relevance to your post.

Because it would take you less time and effort? -Pillar
