UK Arrests For Emo Hate Crime

Article
Earlier this month, Greater Manchester Police became the first force in the U.K. to treat attacks on groups such as goths, emos and punks in the same way as crimes based on race, religion, disability or sexual orientation.
Should we call attacks on people like this hate crimes? Should I get harsher penalties under the law just because I happened to punch a nerd in the face? Discuss.

 • Making a crime seem worse than it really is based on who you attack just causes further separation among the communities

 • Hate crimes are such a crock of shit. You assaulted someone, that's bad, period/full stop. Doesn't matter who that person was, what the believed in, how they dress, etc. Individuals are to be treated equally, and thus violence is equally bad regardless of the perpetrator or victim.
