In the article it says that Hive souls escape from the bodies when you kill them. But they were definitely talking about the Fallen (and DeeJ gave the example of the Fallen Captain whose soul ripped from his body after death).
EDIT» Oh wait I'm re-watching the presentation and indeed, they are talking about the Hive. SORRY my brain must've heated up from all the new images »_«

Oops, thanks I have corrected it. I'm still not sure if I'm sold on souls and magic in sci-fi. Maybe it's a special universe.
-
I love it though, for it sounds like something entirely new (to me at least). Which means anything could be possible, and it's exciting to maybe see a brand new (sci-fi) genre come to life.

According to Bungie's postcards for each race, isn't the flash of light coming from The Hive their soul? After seeing that, I assumed that The Hive can possess other races, which would explain this: http://www.bungie.net/pubassets/615/dark_patrol_desktop.jpg

So could that mean that the hive is pretty much Destiny's Flood?
-
In terms of gameplay, potentially. In terms of story, hopefully not. The Flood have quite a rich history, I'd like to see Bungie try another fresh take on sci-fi zombies.
-
Wow. Never even thought about that before.
-
Hmm that explains why Cabal and Fallen would associate.
-
And also the glowing green aura coming from them, it could be The Hive soul.

whoa...just noticed that...and that black mist stuff. Good catch!! It's like that dark stuff on the moon ya know? That Hellmouth place (which I'm pretty sure is like Hive Central) has all that mist around it
