Learn to program and get help in our group!

Hello Seventh Column, We started up this group recently with the intent of finding and gathering like minded people to discuss and explore various programming languages. We have how ever found some people who are interested in learning so if it pleases people we can start doing short tutorials for some languages to help give people a base to learn from aswell as get some feedback! If anyone is interested or wants to take part simply post here and join the group. Obviously there are, sites for this kind of help however I am just trying to help out the community with a similar service. Thanks

  • Since games utilize object orientated programming, but some languages (C++, and JAVA) may be daunting to learn right off the bat. I recommend learning BASIC to fuel your growth in learning a language and then learning OOP through it to give you a start. site: www.justbasic.com Just download the software and then learn to program. The forums there will help in learning some of the language's ins and outs. I will upload an easy game I made for finals in my basic programming class.

    • I am very interested in getting in to the field of game design and development. I am a freshman in highschool and I am currently taking computer programming 1, but all we are learning is visual basic. What language do you recommend I learn to code in if I want to develop games for microsoft consoles. Also what sources can I use too further my programming knowledge? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

        • I'd love to learn. All I know is a bit of HTML coding, and there's no way that my knowledge of that could ever be called "vast", so I'd love the opportunity.

            • I've always used Python and Pygame to make simple 2d games, and the tutorial I used to learn was from Invent with Python. There are two free Ebooks there, Invent your own Computer Games with Python, which is geared more towards complete beginners, and the second one, Making Games with Python and Pygame, is more for people who have done programming in the past but might be new to Python and Pygame.

              • I'd like to see some of those tutorials. Makes a lot of sense to help people figure out how to make these games in the community itself, play friendlier with the current engines and such. Plus I've got some media ideas I'd like the proper skillsets for eventually.
