This is true. I knew very little about World War I from public education and understood little of the circumstances, outcome, and the fighting itself until I conducted independent research. It's amazing what they neglect to teach us, nowadays. Just earlier, I was having a conversation with a friend about selective and limited public education has become in many western nations. As an American, we've gone over our own nation's history countless times, and even then, they've never taught us a thing about Korea, Vietnam, or more recent military encounters like Desert Storm. I'm willing to bet less than a quarter of my class-mates understand the conflict well enough to have an intelligent conversation about it. Anyway. Yeah. Education . . . it needs a boost.
