Go to a building with little to no windows dig a massive trench so that it is impossible for zombies to climb up to my stronghold. Have generators and a life time supply of food.

Kill everyone in my community, take all of their food. Stockpile all of their food, supplies, generators, weapons, and gasoline-a at one of their houses. Once everything is in one place I will fortify it, board up all of the windows. Once that is done I will go to a construction site and get one of dem big diggers and dig a massive trench around my fortified home. I would then live comfortably.

...But what if you get shot or bit while you're killing everyone and looting their homes?

Wouldn't happen. I'd kill off one family at a time, starting with the unsuspecting stronger ones so I can get their weapons to finish off the rest. As for the biting my weapons won't be in short supply.

I'll go in the dead of night. I'll loot another community. By this time everyone that could have possibly ended my life would be dead.
