How can anyone defend this? A 15 year old had access to an assault rifle, grabbed it and shot a man multiple times!!! What the hell is wrong with you people!?

Yep, and if he didnt. He could be killed or robbed. And I dont even want to imagine what could have happened to his sister. If someone breaks in your house, you do whatever you need to.

Oh, totally. If I caught someone robbing my house I wouldn't run or confront him, I would get the nearest sharp object (anything would do, a knife, a pair of scissors, a pencil), ninja my way close to him and threaten hurting his leg (if he was armed I would stab him immediately). (So much for civilized behavior, huh?) But imagine what would happen if the kid grabbed the gun in a fit of rage and went to his school... Well, I guess you don't have to imagine too much, because it seems that's more and more frequent in the USA now.

Guns are used for hunting and sports shooting which are popular pastimes in the US. In Alaska guns are a necessity considering their isolation. The kid protected his little sister from a home invader, honestly I don't see anything wrong with that. Also why should law abiding citizens be punished for the actions of a few nutjobs with a gun?

That wouldn't be an assault rifle. Those tend to be on the low price and quality side, $6k.
