No one ever said that an assault rifle wasn't good for defending, they just said that it was better for assaulting

Ok, but this was not an Assault Rifle. It was an AR-15 which is a Semi-automatic Sporting rifle. The term Assault Rifle only extends to rifles that are capable of burst or automatic fire.
