How about we say no to abstinence because it's an awful program to teach to children which certainly isn't working.

Repression is never a good idea, in my opinion. Teaching the reality of things is so much more effective. "You kids are going to want to have sex soon. It'll feel great. It's natural. Be sure to take precautions. Here is a condom and this is how it works." *passes around a banana* Teens revolt and do that which they've been told not to do. "Just say no" doesn't work.

Exactly this. Instead of preaching don't do it, teach about the facts and how to stay safe with contraception.
