We have it for armor and even for exotics now. Even if the exotic transmogs are limited in pvp, they still exist. Why not weapons too? Specifically legendaries because I know some exotic weapons would just have weird animations like trying reload Monte Carlo as if it were Sweet Business.
As for legendaries, that would really just need to be animation, frame, and/ or manufacturer dependent. And like 80% of the weapon are reskins anyway, I mean the model for Better Devils is used like 9 times if we don't include reprisals. And if people are worried about it "causing confusion" like mismatched exotic ornaments in pvp, it literally won't if people spend a split second to read like they should've anyway.
Even if not, there's no way you're going to visually identify if a guy is shooting you with Kept Confidence or Corundum Hammer for example. If they would've killed you with Qua Nilus, chances are they would've killed you with Mirror Imago. If they would've killed you with the Psi Aeterna or whatever the last 340 stasis pulse was, chances are they would've killed you with New Purpose. If by the off chance there would be any confusion, it would be by sounds not matching the weapon named after they killed you.
So really the only thing this could even remotely break would be if some guns simply have better sights than others, and that's less of a weapon problem and more of a developer mistake.
