I think the current story and the witness as a villain is underwhelming

Compare the lore/story from two or three years ago and compare it to now. Back then we still had the kind of storytelling and esoteric, weird mystery and worldbuilding destiny is known for. We still had the mystery of the veiled statues. The Gardener and The Winnower. The uncertainty of the true nature of the Pyramids. The original idea of the final shape, etc. Now? Now we have this villain who looks like a giant walking cigarette with kawaii cat eyes whose backstory can basically be boiled down to "we no want traveller leave me upsetti" so now it wants to achieve the incredibly cliche and boring goal of getting rid of life and death. Wow. Never heard that before in anything else ever. Oh yeah and remember that awesome lore book describing the Gardener and the Winnower in the Garden before they entered our universe? Yeah the witness made that up lol. The veiled statues? Just a speed dial to the witness basically. Calus comes back after a whole chunk of story and time where no one knows what happened to him, then it turns out his consciousness is in the Leviathan (?) Which is not really developed and then next time we see him he's reduced to being the witness little -blam!- before we kill him off. I could go on but I think I've made my point. Feel free to disagree.

[/quote] I'm pretty sure I wrote topic on him being the consciousness of the leviathan before lightfall, pretty sure it got down voted to oblivion. Not just that it was the leviathan, just an incorporeal consciousness like toland. Pretty sure it's inferred, but this community doesn't like inference, and despite saying there was mystery, the community really needs -blam!- spelled out for them. Also, pretty sure this is about digitizing consciousness and the shape of eternity when we go down that road. It's literally happening, it been a topic since we first started messing with programming math into a language we could use to create worlds, and intelligence. I can sit here and say it's a loop until I'm blue in the -blam!- face, and after the loop is revealed, someone like you will hop on here and go...it makes no sense. There was nothing that told me directly. Pretty sure that's why they put empirical evidence in the lore.

  • I think they introduced the Witness way too late into the story. We only just started seeing it interact with the world during the most recent expansion. Also I think they made the major antagonist too human. I understand that the witness is supposed to reflect humanity, but at that point why not just make the enemy humans? (It would've helped give the enemy a reason for wanting to influence us).

  • And if the games was still leading us on with no apparent answers in sight half the people complaining now would be crying out that Bungie have absolutely no idea what the answers are. This is a consequence of known vs unknown. Though this year could have been used to better bridge the gap, instead of one singular cutscene last season. Oh yeah also Eris Morn explicitly told us to not trust Unveiling when we began receiving the entries. This is what happens when people disregard that and treat the book as gospel when it was actively coming from the mouth of the enemy.

Agreed. I think the game itself is actually going to get BETTER after Final Shape. * 5+ years for empty ships, a couple new enemies, still knowing nothing about the Traveler. Oh and the single most important bad guy in the entire franchise we did not even know about until relatively recently. ** Oh yeah that damn veil also lol....such bad/rushed writing

It’s all going concording to plan 😂🤣 - old

Just wait until the end of the final shape when Cayde wakes up and the screen fades to black as he’s telling Amanda about the crazy dream he’s just had.

Oh man wait until you see that every story ever is in fact... A story that's already been told...only the names have changed. Maybe you'll create that completely original story in a sci Fi setting that hasn't been done and doesn't nod back to previous stories. Edit: imagine several stories all pointing to the same conclusion, that reality isn't real. From books to movies/shows to games (-blam!- even politics and AI sciences), all nudging towards a stupid truth we are ignoring...reality isn't real, just definitions trying to explain it (IT).
