The worm gods have the ability to create rifts that they can use to travel around (think slipspace). That’s how the hive began invading their own system, and got off fundament. The worm gods are closer to the deep, or the darkness, than any other beings (if you don’t count the gardener). So I guess it could make sense that the darkness also has this ability. I’m pretty sure, I may be wrong.
