Soooo close...but think beyond the bounds of Christianity.

The best stories are often the simplest. Traveler fell from grace with the "Darkness" by running off with a portion of it's power and the Darkness seeks to reclaim that power to become whole once again. Becoming whole means Nothing would exist in the end. Which is what Calus is so afraid of. Which is what the Vex are afraid of. Because the material world would cease to exist if the Queen of Final Shapes ever reclaimed the Traveler.
