Destiny 2 Development Roadmap - 4/11/2018

Since the beginning of this year, we’ve been setting more specific expectations for the work we’re doing to support Destiny 2. With some Season 2 updates in our rear view mirror, it’s time to look further into the future. Before we take a look at our development priorities, Game Director Christopher Barrett has some commentary on our goals for this summer, and beyond.
Barrett: The team is very excited to extend the roadmap and share with you some of the big stakes we’re putting in the ground. Recent updates have focused on immediate issues to the live game, but in the coming months our vision for the future is converging with critical player feedback to deliver transformative changes to Destiny 2. We’ll be diving deeper into each one of the listed items soon, and there’s even more we can’t quite talk about yet, but for now it’s all hands on deck to make sure we deliver on our promise to restore Destiny 2 to the hobby we all love.
Here’s the new roadmap, spanning the entire summer. The community has been talking a lot about some of the things we’re developing for Season Four. Our goals for these features are to give you more control over how you configure your loadouts in Destiny 2 and give you more reasons to play the game over time. We also want to bring back those exciting moments when you acquire the perfect weapon. To make this happen, updates like Weapon Randomization, Weapon Slot Changes, Gear Collections, and Records will be delivered to all players. We now have a plan for Raid Prestige changes (including Raid Lairs) and will update where it will land in the next Development Roadmap. Mod Changes are being incorporated into our new plan for Weapon Randomization. On May 8, with the beginning of Season Three, we’re also launching the second expansion to Destiny 2. It’s called Warmind, and it will send you to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies. You’ll earn new loot and master new activities. Today, we’re naming it and dating it. You’ll learn more in a reveal stream on April 24. Mark your calendars and follow us on Twitch. Season Three marks the beginning of a new plan for how we deliver Crucible content. For every player of Destiny 2, we’ll be releasing all of the new Crucible Maps being developed for Warmind into matchmaking. The same goes for the maps we released with Curse of Osiris. To keep the community in the Crucible unified, everyone will see new arenas in matchmade playlists like Quickplay, Competitive, Trials of the Nine, Iron Banner, as well as the new weekly rotators that include Rumble and Mayhem. That means more opponents for everyone. With the arrival of Private Matches, players will need to purchase each Expansion to have exclusive access to play those Crucible maps with other players in a private match. This plan goes into effect on May 8 with the beginning of Season Three. Post Content Launch Breakdown The usual conversation about our creative process will continue. Expect to learn more about the new features on the roadmap as we delve deeper into developer commentary. If these plans change – and plans have a way of doing that – we’ll keep refreshing this roadmap on a monthly basis. Thanks for coming along with us on this journey, thanks for your feedback, and thanks for playing.

  • Thank you as well. I know things are hectic, but just a little insight/perspective from a PVE player. Just tryin to help. With regard to weapon slot changes...yes. Assuming in the fall the system may be Primary, Special , and Heavy (D1) style.... Definitely exiting and cool, just I would hate to lose the ability for us to equip two primaries. Some of us that stuck it out like the fact you can run Double handcannons in your loadout Or especially a Scout and a Handcannon, very useful to the precision shooters out there. Even running Double Autos, you get the idea. If we could have 2 Primaries equipped at all time for Convenience AANND the special Weapon and Heavy Weapon slots, I think that would help both sides of the fence. So far, it’s been a better year. The Adults here appreciate you....thank you.

    • Can you please be more specific about weapon randomisation? You’ve used wording that could mean anything rather the wording that tells us we are getting what we want. Is this just going to be like mods again? A meaningless buff that does nothing for gameplay value?

          • No thanks, absolutely inexcusable to take so long simply to get back to something marginally resembling year 3 of Destiny. I'll be saving my money for Anthem, The Division 2 and Borderlands 3 thank-you-very-goddamned-much, you skag-licking midget loving taint sacks. (Been playing too much BL2 lately lol sue me). Still trying to get a refund out of Sony for this trash heap god what a waste of a brilliant universe and concepts.

Worlds are huge and has so much content.....oh and a playable story too. Bumgie you really suck in those areas.

                    • So all of this stuff we will get by December or late 2019???? 💀 That's what it sounds like to me Bungie, with how this game has been going so far...... I say stop with the road maps an just do it for once..... 💀 That kind of 💩 just usually ends up leading to disappointment for your community..... Just saying 💀

Anyways, It's good to see somethings appear that they are going to take place even though it's not something that should have happened nor should have the community even had to ask for it. You mentioned something that I wounder how many caught on reading this that I found really interesting...
Since the beginning of this year, we’ve been setting more specific expectations for the work we’re doing to support Destiny 2. (With some Season 2 updates in our rear view mirror, it’s time to look further into the future. Before we take a look at our development priorities,) Game Director Christopher Barrett has some commentary on our goals for this summer, and beyond.
If i'm reading this right about updates being in the rear view mirror, this doesn't make sense. Especially knowing things like Heavy Synthesis drops that the devs "promised' to fix during the beta that Luke acknowledge. The beta was how long ago? Later, if I'm correct but if not correct me, I don't mind. There was an update for it to fix this issue right? Yet it's still an issue today. That is only one thing I mentioned as far as updates that are not in your rear view mirror. Please refrain from making statements like that or at least tell the person that comes up with the scrips for you to be more cautious on what they are actually saying. It's misleading, saying something has been taken care of when in fact it has not.
but for now it’s all hands on deck (to make sure we deliver on our promise to restore Destiny 2 to the hobby we all love.
That is actually a bold statement coming from this company when the community already knows this companies "promises". Making promises that one can not keep is misleading especially when promises are broken and it seems to be the norm with this company. So knowing the issues this company has been running into since D2 released that it tends to change things a lot and dates of things to be released, (like IB.) It would be wise not to make promises at this point. Especially knowing these promises have seem to bite back, and in an update like you said DMG....
We know our trust needs to be earned
That statement is something you guys should be really looking at and actually paying attention to. I mean, if you really think about it. How well do you think things like this sit well with the community or Reddit for that matter?
XP twice Dawning 3oC Creating a paywall with the first DLC Creating a paywall blocking gamers that been on Bnet since Halo days Putting more content behind a paywall in the base game. Tess seems to have gotten a lot of unwanted attention then you guys expected. I'm sure EA caught Bungie's attention Blocking refunds Not adding prestige mode loot and making the statement of " Tess wasn't meant for endgame content" This recent update that gamers were not happy with strike specific loot.
I only gave the basics, but things like this and when it's many things like this? Gamers don't take things like this kindly. So, just a suggestion. Maybe talk to someone that can pass info down to the higher ups that If things like this doesn't change. As you can see, it will only make matters worse as far as this forum goes that this forum is far wore off then it has ever been in this forums history. Of course all of what I stated is just my opinion but something to think about. Blaming the community saying they were "creating a false narrative" with DT knowing 2+ milling gamers have drooped this game just in the first 2 months. It got that bad that Bungie literally dropped the price tag for D2 vanilla 3 times in the first month. You can not say that about D1 vanilla. Just what I stated here should have been a red flag to this company knowing 3+ million gamers stuck around through D1 vanilla and the first expansion. Even Trials is lower then it has ever been in this games history and is getting a lot of unwanted attention. How can some of this change? It's simple, actions speak louder then words. I don't think Bungie actually pays attention to that phrase all that much but it sure has effected this community. Most of all? Bungie needs to stop lying to their player base. Now that I got all that out of the way. Like I said, it's good to see things appear that they are going to take place. If Bungie follows through with it they might just see a bit of change around here. As usual, time will tell so I'll wait and see what actually takes place.
