Destiny 2 Development Roadmap - 4/11/2018

Since the beginning of this year, we’ve been setting more specific expectations for the work we’re doing to support Destiny 2. With some Season 2 updates in our rear view mirror, it’s time to look further into the future. Before we take a look at our development priorities, Game Director Christopher Barrett has some commentary on our goals for this summer, and beyond.
Barrett: The team is very excited to extend the roadmap and share with you some of the big stakes we’re putting in the ground. Recent updates have focused on immediate issues to the live game, but in the coming months our vision for the future is converging with critical player feedback to deliver transformative changes to Destiny 2. We’ll be diving deeper into each one of the listed items soon, and there’s even more we can’t quite talk about yet, but for now it’s all hands on deck to make sure we deliver on our promise to restore Destiny 2 to the hobby we all love.
Here’s the new roadmap, spanning the entire summer. The community has been talking a lot about some of the things we’re developing for Season Four. Our goals for these features are to give you more control over how you configure your loadouts in Destiny 2 and give you more reasons to play the game over time. We also want to bring back those exciting moments when you acquire the perfect weapon. To make this happen, updates like Weapon Randomization, Weapon Slot Changes, Gear Collections, and Records will be delivered to all players. We now have a plan for Raid Prestige changes (including Raid Lairs) and will update where it will land in the next Development Roadmap. Mod Changes are being incorporated into our new plan for Weapon Randomization. On May 8, with the beginning of Season Three, we’re also launching the second expansion to Destiny 2. It’s called Warmind, and it will send you to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies. You’ll earn new loot and master new activities. Today, we’re naming it and dating it. You’ll learn more in a reveal stream on April 24. Mark your calendars and follow us on Twitch. Season Three marks the beginning of a new plan for how we deliver Crucible content. For every player of Destiny 2, we’ll be releasing all of the new Crucible Maps being developed for Warmind into matchmaking. The same goes for the maps we released with Curse of Osiris. To keep the community in the Crucible unified, everyone will see new arenas in matchmade playlists like Quickplay, Competitive, Trials of the Nine, Iron Banner, as well as the new weekly rotators that include Rumble and Mayhem. That means more opponents for everyone. With the arrival of Private Matches, players will need to purchase each Expansion to have exclusive access to play those Crucible maps with other players in a private match. This plan goes into effect on May 8 with the beginning of Season Three. Post Content Launch Breakdown The usual conversation about our creative process will continue. Expect to learn more about the new features on the roadmap as we delve deeper into developer commentary. If these plans change – and plans have a way of doing that – we’ll keep refreshing this roadmap on a monthly basis. Thanks for coming along with us on this journey, thanks for your feedback, and thanks for playing.

  • Thanks for the heads up, i will be ready for d2 to finish beta stage in september. I will definately give the game a second look. Prim/spec/heavy + random perks makes me excited. Altho i may not purchase the september expansion right away, i will let 2 months pass before even contemplating that.

        • Why not just add a new DLC in D1. Save you all the time and resources getting D2 back up to beta D1. I’d pay for that.

          • What's sad is if bungie had not listened to the idiot who was in charge of d2 none of this would be going on. Bungie is like that teenager who always learns the hard way. Plenty of people explained what you needed to do for d2. But no your idiot decided what was best and now look where you are. By the time bungie makes d2 playable again anthem will allready be out and what little fans you have left will be gone. Good job messing up a game that would of been epic in gaming history. Destiny is in titanic mode now and soon will be under.

          • So let me get this right, please correct me if I’m wrong I bought seasons pass to have access to new content, which includes maps, which in turn would make them exclusive to seasons pass owners or those that choose to purchase a dlc. Now you, bung, give those pvp maps away for free. Thanks for yet another slap to the face of paying customers I think seasons pass holders deserve a refund due to this move, bung you negated our purchase Gee thanks

            • People should actively avoid playing this game until at least September. The only means you have to harm them is to make them look like a bad investment risk and cause their investors to start abandoning them. That will squeeze them in a place they actually care about, and after having their balls in a vice for a while, they will never try to mistreat their playerbase again...or... Atleast not for a few months... See, investors base their decisions on rather or not to become a shareholder on the successfulness and viability of the product.... It's easy to say "oh look how many copies they sold"............... Except that's not what investors look at. Sure they want to see that a developer has a lot of product being moved. They also want to see that a lot of people are using that product... A significant drop in players means a drop in future product sold, which means a decrease in the interest in investing in the company... If we can whittle their pve players to under 200k, their pvp players to under 100k, and keep it there until september regardless of their updates, and new dlc, not only will they likely be forced to give away their next expansion just to get players playing again, they, and the entire industry, will think twice about taking gamers for granted. Or. You know. You can keep mindlessly grinding on a game with nothing to do, where you have everything, and the only thing to come back to is to see what their latest patch is about...You can play a game with nothing going for it, or you can boycott it entirely until September and maybe scare them into actually caring about you.. All I got to say is, if you are someone who knows you've been taken advantage of, taken for granted, treated like you're not important, or like you should be grateful to them for "letting" you play a game you freaking paid for... And you keep playing. Then you are what they are counting on... That gamers really will let them get away with anything... Don't be what they want you to be. Make them hurt, and they will change. But if they get away with it, get some lube because everything from EA to DE will be forming a line behind Bungie to take their turn screwing you.

Ok so trying to remain positive here but you’re not making it easy. I’m happy you have finally given in to the majority of the community and will be giving them d1 back but if you had done it to begin with all this time and effort you’re now using could have been used to make some seriously decent improvements. Once dlc 3 lands we will have d1 equivalent but with better graphics so what you’re going to get now is people moaning about how it’s a d1 remake lol You’re still going to get moans and groans because it’s taking you so long to re-hash d1 stuff and add it to the game, and now it’ll be posts asking why d2 has nothing new and exciting from d1 and what are you going to do to improve on the d1 experience. Basically you can’t win and that’s entirely your own fault. I like many others will come back and play the Warmind dlc (maybe, depends on pve content) as I’ve paid for it already but that will be it - my reason is I can pretty much guarantee that the dlc will not add much actual content to the game and probably still be on par with the other content in d2 making the replayability thin, the campaign and side missions and strikes will probably take 2-3 hours to complete. Yet another raid lair, so we are going back to the cabal ship and doing a mini raid/Poe/Coe thing fighting cabal that has nothing to do with the dlc theme for more cabal themed weapons and armour yay I can’t wait :-/ — well done bungie, so that’s again no decent end game content. Yes we have nightfall’s and prestige nightfall’s and the leviathan event things but seeing how the strikes and lairs are not that fun I seriously got so bored of doing the strikes for everything (faction rallies, nightfall’s, forge weapons, milestones, tokens, tokens, -blam!-ing tokens) I’m not impressed with end game. If all these improvements (sorry I mean basics) got added by say June/July time people wouldn’t be so pissed at you, for me until armour and weapon customisation (just played payday2 and the weapon customisation is decent in that game), bigger better skill tree’s, more decent content, lore tab and hidden quests come along I doubt I’ll be giving this game the attention I gave d1 or want to give this game which to be fair saddens me. Oh well I’m sure other co-op games will be coming out soon enough.

                  • I've said this before, I'll say it again. Take your time, It's not like you've already hemorrhaged most of your player base already. You have plenty of time to make these changes.

                      • Other game developers something needs fixing it's implemented almost immediately. Bungie take at least 4 months to implement a proper fix 😬. Then when they do they base it all around PVP; I'm totally amazed that they still haven't realised its PVE content that we want.

                        • MASSIVE PVE update or R.I.P. . Unlock all the maps would be a good start. PVP is and always will be secondary to PVE ...... Also, riddle me this.... What good are Clans and Factions if they are never pitted against each other. Can you imagine faction rallies if you had to take out opposition? Or at least had the option to. Could and should be different lobbies/worlds for this........ Also, what good is PVP if you cant even choose what and who you play?

                              • Sentinel and Supression Nades need a fix/buff The top tree is great other than the Ward of Dawn. It’s hot garbage in PvP, so please, give us back our Weapons/Blessings of Light or make the Armor twice as powerful and the Ward itself twice as powerful. Supers wreck the bubble like its nothing now. It used to be Super for Super, but now bubble takes two hits and it is gone. Suppresion Nades also have a glitch. When you suppress a Arcstrider, the Arcstrider can coninue attacking even while suppressed until it’s combo ends. One attack would be fine and all, but the entire combo?

Exotic gear should be harder to obtain so they feel more rewarding when we get them, would be better if they only dropped from Nightfalls, Raids, and Trials instead as well as any other end game activity equal to Raids in the future....take away the Xur engram and 3 of coins and not have them drop from public events either because thats way to easy. Instead have gear unique to public events drop instead, would be cool to see more Vex looking gear drop from the Vex event or Cabal unique gear drop from the Cabal event etc..on top of the current Nightfall unique gear........also instead of buying exotics using shards from Xur since shards are ridiculously easy to obtain why not re introduce strange coins instead?
