It's speculation. Bungie got hacked or something and thousands of files were released. One of the files released makes it appear as though Cayde dies. They weren't clear on whether it was a file they decided to not use, or a file that is for one of the upcoming expansions. I personally can't see them killing off Cayde. He's the only cool guardian in the game anymore. He's actually quite funny. Plus I love the actor that does his voice over, who was awesome in the series as a captain of a smuggler spaceship.
