Probably not. Bungie is the thing holding it back. Implying that destiny 2 is too technically demanding to run at 60fps on the newest consoles is absolute bollocks. Firstly, it looks like a cross-gen game, like Destiny. Secondly look at a game like DOOM, one of the most visually impressive games in the same genre, running at a steady 60fps on a standard PS4. It's easier to blame the hardware than admit that you don't care to put the effort in.

Edited by TommyG: 5/25/2017 7:20:01 PMOr its a legitimate problem because of the Pro using the same CPU as the Standard 4? Digital Foundry have covered this already
-
Are any other games having this problem? Not really.
-
Bf1 really struggles to keep a high framerate even with the dynamic resolution killing graphical fidelity
-
But that game is very technically impressive. It looks fantastic, there are tons of players on the same map at any given time, destructible structures, dynamic particle effects, physics simulations etc. I'm not saying that there is no limit to these consoles but destiny 2 does not look like a game that should be hitting the ceiling.
-
I'm sorry, are all games the same? What a ridiculous statement to make.
-
No but destiny 2 should not be any more demanding than any one of them.
-
But it is. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-why-cant-destiny-run-at-60fps-on-ps4-pro

Edited by Stormtroupe: 5/26/2017 2:16:58 AMIt says right in the article that a big factor is because their engine is built for running at 30fps. So, they don't want to spend the resources to upgrade their engine. That's fine but don't blame it on the consoles. In a way I'm actually not all that surprised that it runs at 30. Activision has a history of being chincy with their game engines, reusing them for years and years before updating.
-
Where in the article does it say that?
-
"DICE built its game from the ground-up around a higher frame-rate target - it isn't trying to force a 30Hz engine into a 60Hz envelope with only limited additional resources." - talking about how battlefield 1 runs at (or at times slightly below) 60fps and how that game is just as if not more technically ambitious.
-
But there are two important distinctions here. First of all, even on PS4 Pro, there are frame-rate drops from the 60fps target - almost certainly down to the CPU's still modest capabilities.
Don't miss that part out. It's literally stating that even the DICE engine is prone to frame drops due to the CPU. Are we expecting game companies to build new engines for every single game they want to release? Just so it can keep up with a pointless, Mid gen console upgrade?
-
I saw that part. I'm not a PC master race guy. I'm not looking for a perfect 60fps. In fact, the only reason I care at all is because of the claim that bungie made that destiny 2 is in some way pushing the envelope, which is horsesh*t. And as I said, it's fine that you don't want to upgrade your engine with every game. But if people criticize you for your game's performance, don't then pass the buck along and blame everyone but yourself. Their engine is the problem. Not the consoles.
