I want good games. I honestly could care less about the specs of the console, as long as the game is enjoyable. It seems that developers are forgetting about good games.
Not Nintendo though.
Yes, graphical capabilities and power don't mean anything. We should've just stuck with 8 bit these past 30 years. Come on, better graphics add so much more immersion. You really think that the last of us would've held up on a system like the NES? Current games couldn't hold up without the current graphics and performance. The better the specs, the more devs have to work with and make the game they truly wanted.

Edited by Smash House Breck: 4/11/2017 3:35:54 PMYeah, and that's fine as long as we get good games. However when graphics and performance are prioritized over all else what is the point? I would much rather play an amazing 8-bit/16-bit/32-bit game over some crappy game that runs at 60fps 4K. All I care about are the games. Console specs are something I've never cared about.
Check out To The Moon. I would argue that it's story is at least as good as the Last of Us, if not better, and it was made in RPG maker.
The thing with low quality games like the RPG maker game you mentioned is that you can't quite feel the emotions of characters and can't really get as immersed in the world as you can with games now. You can't tell me that game wouldn't be waaaaay better if it had Xbox one/ps4 graphics. All I'm saying is graphics and performance are important but you do need a good game to go along with it.

Part of the charm and story of Too The Moon is it being in 32-bit style. It wouldn't have the same effect if it were displayed in 4K 1080p with 3D models (not that you mentioned 3D models). All of the immersion comes from the dialogue, and if you can't get into that I'm assuming that you don't read all that often.
All I'm saying is graphics and performance are important but you do need a good game to go along with it.
True. However what I am saying is that you should never say graphics and performance are needed for a good game. Sure they have to at least be decent, but that's all a great game needs. Could they be better with higher quality graphics and better performance? Probably, but then again that depends on the game.

I loved morrowind, but oblivion's voice acting was a huge step up. I can look at cooked salmon in skyrim and feel hungry for some salmon. I played ff7 a couple months ago, and that game isnt the best looking game anymore, but it was still very fun.

Yes but PS3 graphics would suit some people like me perfectly for the next few years. Graphics mean nothing to me either
Obviously not as low as NES graphics. But PS3 or Xbox 360 graphics is fine by me, or even PS2 graphics considering I still play it almost everyday.
Not everyone is you though. I enjoy visual immersion in games. Thats why I spent $1,200 on a pc. More powerful hardware is never bad.
